Wasn't the briefing held before CNY? Why was it only reported yesterday? How did the reporter get the news? An observation about Lianhe Wanbao and The New Paper is that both carry more gossip than news as compared with The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao... well, just a thought.

Agree. Wanbao, TNP often sensationalised their news report.

Academically, the school’s A-levels performance placed them at 4th spot just behind NJC. Maybe doing something correct.

Weihan, that's why I said RV is already doing so well and the students have benefitted from the prog, this can be seen from the spectacular A level results. So there's no need to introduce ipad. It doesn't mean that when they go more high-tech, students will benefit more. The cost is a major concern, addiction is another big headache.

If using the ipad can help our kids to learn better, then why not?

Like Weihan pointed out, RV has always been in the forefront of innovation. It is natural for them to implement ipad if that is the best ICT tool to deliver lessons in the future. I am sure the school has given this much thoughts since they have been deliberating over the past 1+ year.

Even if RV is to do well in A Levels the next few years, the school cannot just do the same stuff every year. If they choose to stay still and stop moving forward, it is a matter of time before other schools catch up and overtake them.

two days ago, ds left his chinese e dictionary on his desk before leaving for the lab and when he returned to the class, the dictionary was gone.. was v angry with him for being so careless. now, i really fear that one day, he would come home and tell me he lost his IPAD!!!

Loss or theft of IPAD is my main concern.
As for addiction to internet, with or w/o IPAD does not make much difference as surfing internet is possible with hp, laptop or PC.
I do hope to see the school would come up to say something with regards to the articles published.
As for some parents with kids who ended up in RV unwillingly, they surely have a choice not to go RV. There are plenty of schools in singapore to take them. RV is surely and certainly not a dumping ground.

Which are the top schools? Presumably RI, HCI? Which schools are 5th/6th etc?

We choose sec school with our eyes open, since we have chosen RV, we will have faith in it and support its decisions.

For the 2 parents who are so strongly against the decision that they had to shout and be rude, I can only say, since they and the school have fundamental differences, they should for the sake of their kids, transfer to another school (jmho).

Times have changed. During our school days, we do not get to go overseas for learning, but now, kids are going overseas for all sorts of reasons - competitions, immersion programmes, CIP.

Similarly,if we remain stagnant and use the traditional methods of teaching, our kids will lose out in the long run. Hence, I give the school the blessings in going ahead with the ipad programme.

As for games addiction, as verykiasu2010 mentioned, \"if the kids were to become addicted, no matter where / what the kid will be addicted....they will get their hands somewhere and get addicted\". So, don't blame the school and IT for your kids' addiction. We parents have to educate and keep close eyes on our children.

Someone mentioned about Crescent Girls, this is something I googled and wanted to share (source: wikipedia) :

Crescent is one of the few FutureSchools@Singapore conferred by MOE and IDA as a leading school with excellent teaching and learning practices that leverage on technology, using TPCs to study and do research. Another achievement that has secured Crescent's position as a leading instituiton on the world map, was being declared by Bill Gates at the 2007 Global Leaders Forum (January 31, 2007) as mentor school for schools of the future around the world. Crescent now mentors innovative schools in 12 countries under the Worldwide Microsoft Innovative Schools Programme.

Wow, no mean feat. Perhaps RVH and us parents can learn from Crescent how they manage games addiction, safekeeping of TPCs, etc.
