SOTA has opened the 2013 talent academy exercise. Just wondering is there any difference between the Mar and Jun TA other than the fact that there is more time to prepare for the June TA. Is it better to go for Mar since obviously, there is less people.

After my DD was not successful for piano audition last June, I left SOTA thread until today when I decided to pop in and saw your post.
Only 26 for Music ! Wow ! Congratulations for getting a place in SOTA.
May I know what grade is your son at ?lyhparent:
Hi All,
He is in Music (piano).. just went to SOTA for the registration on 22 Dec. Understand that this year there is only 184 students accepted, and in music there is only 26 students.
So looking forward to share more info with all parents here. -

My son is only on Gr 5 ABRSM, now going for Gr 7 this year. Hmm.. maybe thats y he was put on waiting list earlier. But I think also depend on his performance during his audition. As for my son, he has being performing in school, active in CCA, did a lot of public speaking, therefore he was well-prepared for audition. After my DD was not successful for piano audition last June, I left SOTA thread until today when I decided to pop in and saw your post.

Does SOTA music students still need to take private music lesson outside SOTA school hours to achieve grade 8 or diploma level in their respective instruments ?
Does SOTA curriculum provides it’s music students with practical coaching/examinations so that students can go beyond Grade 8 ABRSM/Trinity and achieve diploma level for their respective instruments ?
My concern is since their curriculum is so packed, will they have time for private music lessons outside SOTA school hours ? -
smurfalone:
You do not need and cannot take private lessons for the same instruments outside SOTA. Instrumental tutors are provided and paid for by the school (pairing done by the school) except extra lessons taken during school holidays. All teachers there are qualified to teach students beyond G8 and Dip level, mostly SSO/YST tutors. Curriculum is packed because they factor in the music lessons both practical and theory and practice period (if AGP aka Artistically Gifted Programme).Does SOTA music students still need to take private music lesson outside SOTA school hours to achieve grade 8 or diploma level in their respective instruments ?

All for the price of one if student is seriously into their arts programme.
