My dd got in Track and Field for her CCA. Checked the school website, gosh, it is the CCA with the most no. of days of training (other than table tennis)!
Do they really have to go back to school on Sat? -
Last weekβs CCA allocation results were really disappointing for me. I really wanted to join ELDDS (debate) badly and went for the audition. It went smoothly and the seniors showed lots of interest in me. They asked me on a scale of 1 to 10 how interested I am to join. I told them 10. I placed ELDDS as my first choice and was quite confident of getting in.
However on Friday, I discovered to my horror I was allocated to my 4th choice, NPCC. I was devastated. It was unbelievable. I questioned myself why ELDDS did not choose me, even when I told them I had prior experience as a debater in primary school. I told them my interest was 10 put them as my 1st choice, but in the end, this was what happened. My classmate, who also wanted debate very badly, encountered the same problem.
I only put NPCC as my 4th choice because it was compulsory to put UG as one of your choices. Thinking that UG would probably never accept me, I tikam tikam put NPCC. Never did I think I would be allocated to NPCC.
My friend, who had Chinese dance as her CCA in primary school and studies dance at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, did not even get shortlisted for Modern Dance after the auditions! She was thrown to NPCC in the end. On the other hand, the inexperienced people got into dance. The same thing happened for many other CCAs.
I am now planning to appeal out of NPCC because I really dislike being in UG. It seriously isnβt my thing. What perplexes me is that, why did such problems arise in the allocation of the CCAs? -

Dear Zeemimi
Thank you very much. -

I didn't know there is a 4th choice. DD told me there are 3 choices, and UG has to be one of them.

I totally agree with you. My dd not from cedar but her school also allocate CCA in such manner which i cant figure out. She actually put Chinese orchestra as her first choice, having music background but ended up was put into Debate which is her 2nd choice. She was quite happy about it but not me as a mother.....coz she will probably use her debating skills with me soon....Last week's CCA allocation results were really disappointing for me. But what i wanna share with you when her principal said during the parent-sch session is, in the real world out there, we dont always get what we want, eg. ur boss assign some tough n uninteresting task to u, we just have to learn to embrace it at times. Who knows, you might learn to love it!! -

Track is the most heavy going CCA. It is Cedar's niche. But take heart, probably can gain many CCA points easily. My dd got in Track and Field for her CCA. Checked the school website, gosh, it is the CCA with the most no. of days of training (other than table tennis)!

My DD is in UG and at the end of Sec 2, she has almost hit the target to get a A1 for CCA. -

Thanks for the consolation.

DD came back after her 1st CCA yesterday. She was so tired by 9.30pm. I can't imagine it is going to be 3x a week till 5.30pm for the next 4 years.
When the child hits the A1 target, does it mean she can stop attending the CCA?

My dear, getting into a UG isn't the end of the world. Many of my friends got into UG, some got into it by their last choice. Some got into it because all their 6 choices were not approved. ELDDS is a CCA that is really hard to get into. I tried, failed, got into a UG and I'm loving my cca. The most enthusiastic people in class about their CCA are usually those from UGs. If your appeal fails, I hope that you will in turn learn to love NPCC.Last week's CCA allocation results were really disappointing for me. It's not you that's at fault. I told ELDDS I was very interested too. But perhaps you lacks something that they were looking for. Who knows?
As for dance, perhaps the inexperienced ones have that thing that dance wants.
Don't question how the CCA system works, it's a messy thing. And while you appeal out of NPCC, enjoy it while you can.
I didn't appeal out of my UG. It was my third choice. I didn't appeal out as I felt that since they already rejected me, I'm not going to appeal and hope they put me in ELDDS. They have a reason to reject me so I'm just gonna let it go.
I don't regret joining my CCA and staying in it. From what I hear from my friends, they really do enjoy NPCC. Even this girl in my class who I will never expect to be in a UG, lest of all enjoy it, enjoys NPCC.
Good luck. ^^ -

thank you for the kind words. it really has helped me reflect on what I truly want. I'll think through this and if my appeal fails, I'll try my best to love NPCC ^^ it does seem good after bonding with the seniors during today's cca orientation. My dear, getting into a UG isn't the end of the world.
