I think the writer is not a student from RV. Everyone knows, it is a no need to discuss fact, current P is very very serious and strict on morale. RV students and maybe even parents are aware of that because we have heard many stories from our kids. Many of the teachers also emphasise a lot on morale and character building. I am very touched on how a few issues dd told me about the caring and 一大堆大道理 teachers. The teachers who are parents themselves, say the same kind of 道理 like us. I told dd, these 道理 sounds so familar. Haha…

Discussed with DD about her first month in Sec1:

only Maths teacher corrects homework…they like Maths teacher most.

English: just corrected one tested writing, self-study is the most important capability for her comprehension book…

Science: not yet touch physics or chemistry at all, but printed notes are pretty good.

History: a humous teacher, she likes this subject as well as maths.

          Geography: lots of preview works.

What about yours? few homework correction too? should I send my DD to tuition? Thanks!

Just read from another forum an advantage of using ipad in school.

You can save quite alot on textbooks which will make up for the price of buying the ipad.

I have a feeling that all singapore schools take those Talent for CCA just like RV does. So if your child is not outstanding enough then has to go UG. Although the school allows change after 2 years, but if now you off list there is no chance to get listed after 2 years.
This is not fair for children's education as MOE's imagination of \"holistic\" whatever but it is the real life.

Happypie, thanks for your reply. I understand talent student will be taken. The only issue is how to define talent student. For example, if one studend was recruited by band even he did not learning music before, while another student was rejected even he has played musical instrument for more than 6 years. Do you think it is fair? As it is different from competitive sport, it is easy to choose the winner. However, for band, choir, etc, i just want to know what’s the standard for teacher to choose the talent student.

Anyway, it is not a big issue, I just want to know if anybody has the same concern and may give some advice. This kind of thing definitely should happened in any school.

Received letter from school for Sec 3 on revised CCA curriculum and 1-1 ipad programme. The gist of the revised-CCA curriculum:

The key objectives of r-CCA are to help students develop their interests and build up their physical fitness, instead of focusing on competitions and awards.
Students are allowed to start / join any CCA (IDP – Interest Development Program). ...... School will support these IDPs strongly and ensure that no student will be deprived of his preferred learning activities because he is unable to afford them.

Students talented in particular areas – school will provide avenues under TDP (Talent Development Program) to develop them to their full potential … objective is not to focus on competitions ....

More details will be given during the Principal's talk in March. Finally, RVH is leading the way in letting our kids choose their CCA/IDP based on interest instead of CCA choosing them to win awards! Hurray!
