        Snow Crystal:

Firstly, congrats to your DD for getting into her choice CCA. :rahrah:
Secondly, sec Sch is no longer like primary Sch. In pri Sch, a kid perhaps only cares if she scores straight As and get into good sec schools. An innocent and simple life :imanangel: From sec Sch onwards, esp IPs, it becomes more and more realistic like working. Marks, GPA, MSG etc are important but not the end. CCAs, project work and leadership start to gain importance tilting the balance. When these kick in, EQ, personality, even looks start to play a part. Like working, it gets more complicated ๐Ÿ˜“ Not all the best or straight As workers get promoted at work right   And how come that eat snake worker who only knows how to butter superiors gets promoted huh ๐Ÿคท And yes like working, some do get a position because of connections. We would be naive to assume that connections do not play a part in our society. Like what you said, your DD learns about life lessons. Our kids have to start to accept perceived unfairness in life, make the best of it by learning to better their EQ and personality, to become more like the matured seniors in this thread :please:

        Good post

A balanced post indeed! Girls just hve to learn and develop their potential to differentiate themselves in this competitive enviroment. Outstanding academic and top leadership in respective ccas are inadequate. As they progress to RIJC, a fair number should hve already established themselves as peer leaders after a 4-year period. They will hve to compete for recognition against their brothers from RI and top 0-levels scorers from the likes of CHS, SCGS, CEDAR, CGS, MGS, SJ1, ST NICKS inoder to be given opportunities to represent their jc in academics, arts, sports or other competions. On top of that, must also hve a good record of providing volunteer service outside their jc. While waiting for their A-level results, they must be able to land themselves a place as intern in govt deparments, stat boards, hospitals or a leading private organisation.

After obtaining top A-levels results and with good conduct, leadership position in ccas, community service record, they can than look forward to fighting for a place in their favourite courses in local unis or even a chance to compete for top scholarships.

After successful completion of their studies locally or overseas, they will hve a headstart in their careers. They will than hve to compete against other scholars and top performing grads.

Must put on record that all the above is only just the beginning in addition to all the other qualities as oulined by Snow Crystal, one needs to differentaite from their competition.

We all hv our dear daughters in RGS.

And the values that our DDs get soaked in comes mainly from their interactions with their peers, seniors, juniors; in class, in CCAs etc

So whatever values that the KSP parents of RGS girls here have and impart to their DDs will indirectly affect other peopleโ€™s DD too.

so if I have my wish on how KSP parents of RGS girls wld inculcate in their daughters so that they wld also be the values my DD wld be getting from her peers and sch mates would be

Level 1 - Avoid being Cynical, Critical and Complaining
Level 2 - Embrace Competition, Excellence & Teamwork

but above all, always be Gracious & Grateful & then aim for Level 3

Level 3 - the most power onesโ€ฆ exude Love, Joy, Peace, Forbearance, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control

the above are more precious than GPAs, CCA points & volunteering & internship track recordsโ€ฆ

We have some interesting posts here today

And that puts me in the mood for poetry,
              Here's a 2-liner as teaser:

              Wolves show camaraderie,
Quite devoid in a blighted banshee!

              Enjoy! ๐Ÿ˜„

With regards to CCA trials, (sorry for bringing it up and I've been really inactive haha busy with school) every UG has their own way of grading their interviewees. The criteria is set based on discussion with the teacher ICs and is largely impartial- it doesn't really matter if your sister is the chair or not, I think we need to place our faith in the system and just accept the results.

If we ourselves cannot put faith into the integrity of this whole selection process, then where does that leave us at? Living with grudges and complaints. Why don't we just all embrace life and everything that comes with it! ๐Ÿ˜„

To the juniors out there and myself as well: We haven't experienced it all, remember your troubles, all the trials and tribulations come to naught in the real world, and I guess just be grateful to be in RGS? ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess we need to wake up and mature- stop living in the bubble environment of RGS because out there, its so much tougher.

Think about it- to get into RI (JC), all we have to do is get a 2.0 GPA. Of course that's not desirable but the bare requisite right? Yet for a JAE to get into RI (JC), not only does he/she need to get a perfect 6 points, but also excel in HMT and CCA. They work so much harder than us to get that coveted place and here we are, complaining about the CCA system.

To be honest if anything, I've learnt so much from all my friends outside school because they offer me a glimpse of what their school life is like, and how grateful I should be for everything RGS has given us ๐Ÿ™‚

Fix you, after reading your post, I cannot resist complimenting you on your insightful input. I have always known RGS girls are bright, now I know many of you are of great character as well.

After O level results being released, 4 girls till today are still maintain as good friends since from primary 2. They are living in the same neighbourhood, graduated from neighbourhood pri sch. After PSLE, one girl went to RGS, 3 girls went to girlsโ€™ sch which produce straight 11 A1 student. This year, 4 of them meet in RI(JC).

During CNY parentsโ€™ networking in pri sch, one the mothers whom her daughter was not in RGS commented "After 4 yrs of studying in different sec sch, 4 good friends meet again in Y5. I paid $23/mth for sch fees. Whereas you (RGS mother) paid $100/mth for sch fees."

When you heard such sentence, how do you feel?
