      Honey:
My dd was with another eye clinic for 3 years with a very senior eye doctor but due to an incident, we had to see a eye doc imm & was referred by our Paed to Eagle Eye. We have not looked back since. The prices are similar to other specialist eye clinics but the doctors are gentle & the staff there are nice. They don't put your kid on unnecessary treatment. In fact, when they knew that my dd was on atropine for 2+ years already as prescribed by the previous eye doc, they advised us to stop the atropine treatment & monitor.

How was the result of your dd's 2+ year altropine treatment? Did the degree go up after the treatment was stopped? Did she continue the treatment again after that? Thanks.

8228, my dd’s degree went up by only 50 in the time she was on Hemasol Eye Drops, a milder version of the treatment. She did not have long-sightedness as encountered by her friends who are on Atropine. But while her friends on Atropine sees a drop in degree, dd’s eye degree did not drop. But she did not have problems seeing near. The eye doc did say that this is a milder version as compared to Atropine. We went with his recommendation as he is a very senior doc who is very experienced with kids.

Her degree has somewhat stablised, even tho it has gone up a little as shown by a check 6 months after she has stopped the treatment. Eagle Eye staff told us no need to go back on the eye drop.

          Hi cutiemax

can you share what eye massages you did and how old is your gal? Also, what diet you giving her? My gal has astigmatism.
          My girl is 6yo.

          Here is what we did...

          1) Eye related activities ( reading/studying etc)only during the day. Maximise the use of natural light instead of lightings

          2) Eat eye rich food such as blueberries, carrots, celerys, kiwi, brocooli, squash, sweet potatoes and etc ( I made smoothies/juice to increase intake)

          3) massage eyes(clockwise, 10x and hold for few seconds) in 4 main areas. I do it 3x daily for her. Before school, after school and before sleep.
          - fingers on each side of the eyebrows ( top section)
          - fingers on each side of the nose ( middle section)
          - fingers on cheekbones( bottom of eyes)
          - fingers on each side of the eye( just above ears)

          4) Eye exercise ( 1x daily)
          - Look far and near
          - up and down
          - left and right
          - eight
          -clock

          5) Regular blinking of eyes and looking away when using eyes for close up

          Hope it helps....

              Hmm..never heard of Hemasol.

              - Was the increase of 50 in 2 years?
              - Is it daily?
              - \"No problem seeing near\" means no need for progressive lens?
              - Does it cause the eyes sensitivie to the light? Need transitions lens?

If the power increases slightly and without those side effects of atropine treatment, this seems to be a solution worth considering.

Is atropine drop is a standard procedure recommended by SNEC for myopia progression control or is it a choice to be chosen by the parents ?

Do the doctors recommend its use or provide it as a suggestion ?

I cannot find any health guidelines about it or any documentation about its side-effects.

For my parents whose children are on the atropine programme, any feedbacks on the pros and cons, please ?

                  - Was the increase of 50 in 2 years? Yes- Is it daily? Yes- \"No problem seeing near\" means no need for progressive lens? No need- Does it cause the eyes sensitivie to the light? Need transitions lens? Yes & wear cap when outdoors. She still had her weekly swimming lessons for that 2 years when on drops. Doc advised that the night before her swimming lesson skip the eye drop.

The doc already told me earlier that when her eye degree shoots to 200 or more, he'll prescribe the eye drop. It wasn't until her eye power shot up to 275 that he put her on the therapy. I was expecting Atropine eye drops to be administered too as I went to google. He explained that this is a milder version. I would have gone with Atropine eye drops too as I trusted his expertises. I thought all others are prescribed the same until I learnt recently that Atropine eye drops is the more commonly prescribed eye drops.

From what I understand from my friends, their kids must be on progressive glasses when on Atropine as the kid cannot read near. My friend's son who is still on Atropine had his degree reduced just barely half a year or 9 months into the Atropine therapy. I feel that the best person to check with is your kid's eye doctor. He/she would be the best person to make the recommendations based on the condition of your kid's eyes.

Yes hemasol was prescribed by 1st doc. Dd was still on hemasol for a short while after transferring to Eagle Eye as we still had the eye drops. We were advised to stop the treatment as she had by then been on the treatment for more than 2 years already. Actually we were wondering why didn't the previous eye doc stop the treatment as he said that it was a 2 year therapy but was glad when Eagle eye doc told us to stop the treatment & monitor if the eye power has more or less stablised. My dd stopped the treatment in P5. She is in P6 now.
