do u hv this fear that if the child doesnt do well in math sa its becos u didnt gv tuition cos u teach him or her ursf? i m no expert in math but i m thinkg of teaching myslf to identify my girl's specific weakness that no tutor can address
I did fear , especially for PSLE. Always wondered what if , since all my friends did say that Maths tution/enrichment was a must for PSLE. Most in her class did have some tution/enrichment ( it was the best class ) .
But her school results were good and she does have a very good apptitude for maths. So i crossed my fingers and let it be. She did very well for PSLE so well, alls well that ends well
can share wif me how did teach ur child math? what approach, bks, etc? -

Hi 25hr-mum,

If you are ready to work hard, it is possible. I actually spent a school holiday doing assessment books and exam papers to get myself familiarise with current Math.
For assessment books, i did Fabian Ng, Andrew Er, On Sponge to know about models and alternative ways to solve Math problems. After that,
I did plenty of Paper 2 top school's exam questions for P5 to P6. I gained confident as I could do more and more of the questions.
I personally don't like to stress my children with tuition. I find that I'm with my kids everyday, I can monitor their homework, I can see the type of questions the school is focusing, I'm in the best position to help him.
Who know, you will be so good at it that you can start teaching others
Actually, for me, it all started because my sis wanted me to help teach my niece and nephew. Both ended up with A* and A for the Math.
So, it is possible. Have fun! (Oh, I love Math, that probably helps.) -

I never think of that way,but my DH always thinks and telling me.Sometimes make me think that way.But I know some parents Teach their kids upto PSLE and got good results. My son hates to go tuition. He has no problem in understanding, the problem is carefulness. That I need to work out.School going to start soon.I think parents are the best Teacher of their kids.So do our part confidently.Good luck 24hr_mum!
I like problem solving. -
If you can teach your dd, that is the best because it is your own kid, you will really analyse her mistakes and give her the best but for me, I am too impatient so I outsource

even if i try, my brain is unable to analyse P4 math. and because it is so, i was pretty frustrated when he gets questions wrong and i have to try to decipher where are the mistakes (luckily husband said he'll take over)
so i prefer assessment books with worked examples so the boy can analyse by himself; else i shove the question/worked examples to my husband; else i post here.

Have any parents sent their kids for Math/Science tuition at The Study Solution in Bishan? It is a subsidiary of the Morris Allen Study Centres. It was known as The Maths Solution (2005) but was renamed The Study Solution to reflect the additional Science programme that the centres offer. Appreciate any feed/comments. Thanks!

if we get a good math assessment bk n work hard, is it poss to skip tuition and teach p4 math ourself? p5 then go tuition??
Yes possible, even all the way to P6. For questions you don't know, can always rely on forum's support. -
my gal got jus 65 for math ca but i m stil hesitant to add tuitn cos i think its her own carelessness. not sure if i m on the right track

65 at p4 level is very risky. Pls get help soon.
Buy P4 onsponge guide book online. And also Fan maths heuristics
Process skills from popular. Buy the p5 version of Fan maths.
It is similar to p4 onsponge. And schools like to test advance.
No harm letting her do p5 problem sums.
Hope this helps:-) -

have you seen her paper? if so, you should know if it is carelessness or not by retesting her with changed figures.
i thought my boy's workbook's rounding figures exercises were carelessness until i probe further by giving him more similar exercises and he made the same mistake. then found out it is concept problem.
