My kid keeps having running nose and/or dry cough for no reason. Instead of feeding her with any medication or send her to the doc too quickly, I usually give a full cup of warm water. If it is merely allergy (ie. not viral, no cold/flu), this should work.

How do u differentiate between allergy and a flu virus? If I see them cough and sneeze, my first instinct bring them to doctor! 😓

If your children have been diagnosed with known allergenic condition, then they would most likely be prescribed with antihistamines.
I would give 1/2 dose of antihistamine after 1 day of such symptoms and if the RR and Cough is relieved then I know its an allergen that is causing the R & cough. Then I would continue with the antihistamine for 3 days at 1/2 dose and give them addition Vit C, home cooked fresh food with lots of veggies & send them to bed early.
          Hope this helps......

flu usually comes with continuous runny nose and sometimes (or often) accompanied with a fever while allergy will only trigger at certain time of the day without fever. Eg. in the morning, out from a shower or out from an aircon room.

Try African Sea Coconut Cough Syrup (NTUC sells but cheaper at other chinese medical shop). How I solve my kids cold cough:

                  1. Give the cough syrup right away with the warm water . (Beyond a few coughs is too late as the phelgm has started)
                  2. Switch off fan. No air-con at all time. Sometimes, I keep my child away from school to avoid the air-con.
                  3. Eat a piece of bread/ hot noodle.
                  4. Take a hot bath.

Vapors are out. They make it worse for my kid.

For those having long term cough, that is probably the lungs have been hurt and thus taking longer time to recover. Take the cough syrup daily before the usual time that the cough starts for a period of time. Drink warm water. Also need to avoid fruits too cold for children, grapes, oranges etc.

lots of fruits and veggies are best BUT when there's already a bug Vit C can't help much.

Find out about the Silver Sol supplement. It actually searches out the bacteria or virus and destroy them. For virus, its more of binding the Viral protein and makes it unable to replicate....Thus, giving the body's immune a chance to fight back 🙂

my whole family’s been down with flu and cough since last week. My husband and I are almost fully recovered, except my boy, still having cough.

Does anyone know whether buying a air purifier can help in coughing ? thinking of buying one to at least help him to cough less at night
