Net rumour that Yaw Shin Leong having extra-maritial affair
-
I had a lump in my throat when I heard d news.
A bold move.
Harsh but necessary to win d hearts of SGreans n regain d faith.
This decision came just one day after a Minister moved to suppress netizens’
sharing of an alleged affair by threatening to sue.
Wat a contrast in style n accountability.
WP has just up d ante on morality in political figures.
Kudos to WP.

There is this thing called reasonable inference. Since the PRC tuition teacher Did in fact confirm their EMA, we can safely infer that all other allegations to be true, as well. In addition, pls analyse the fact that YSL did not even fight to stay on, if in fact all allegations are false, speaks volumes. Rational men would expect YSL to protest vigorously, if he is innocent of the allegations. Rational men would also realize that if WP wrongly sacks YSL, YSL can sue for wrongful termination of membership. So, please add them all up & we can see only one rational conclusion...
mebbe it's not angela? :evil:HVR:
Pls lah it is still a rumor? Don't be technical lah. 1 + 1 is 2 and 3 - 1 is not 2? 2 is 2 right?
There may be truth that he got character flaw.. if that is what matters to you.
But the TR article itself may not be 100% true.. there could be other stories..
So.. while it is safe to assume that YSL is not so \"innocent\".. the article, in itself, is still a rumour.. until proven or ack by the involved parties.
I would consider YSL as \"questionable\" or got character flaw.. but will not believe in the article yet..
Impossible/difficult to find evidence does not equate to justifying a rumour as \"fact\".
Maybe it's just me.. oh well..... so be it..
I only believe in hard facts and evidences..
Just recalled this particular article I read recently.. A boy claimed that while making ice-cream, the hot milk freezes faster than cold milk. It is convenient to assume that cold liquid freeze faster, yes/no? It is natural to assume that he muz be seeing things or lying.. yes/no?
But, w/o actually having seeing the evidence, his teachers and friends all dismiss him as nut case and laugh at him.
It is just so \"unbelievable\" that he is speaking the truth, that hot liquid can freeze faster than cold ones.. Just like it is so unlikely that the rumor is not true, given that he was sacked, keep quiet etc.. isn't it?
So.. was the boy lying? those interested can google or read up on \"The Mpemba effect\".

An unequivocal YES! YES!
Does this make WP appear whiter than MIWs now?Way2GO:
WP lost a great opportunity to just come clean n appear whiter than MIWs, wouldn't u agree?
Off White :rotflmao: :rotflmao: -
Sun_2010:
I opined dat YSL was less than forthright with d CEC about his EMAs.
Its all in the timing - That opportunity is lost !concern2:

Off White :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
But atleast now can be Off White.
Better late than never !
Its a tough decision dat requires deep deliberations.

The minister thinks he has a case as he is accused of things he did not do. It is defamatory and hence, he made known his intention to sue if the wrong 'report' continue to perpetuate by party carrying the 'report'. What transpired, at least to me, is that the party carrying the 'report' know he has nothing to substantiate the 'report', hence, he withdraw the comment to avoid being sued.I had a lump in my throat when I heard d news.

What's wrong with the minister's action here? Do nothing and continue to allow his good name to be smeared and defamed? If he does that, it would then appear that the 'report' is true because despite being accused of wrong doing, he dare not do anything to clear his name. If I may, like YSL?
What are we asking here? In the name of free speech and we can hide behind keyboard and type anything we like? That's the problem with internet. People can post things without being held responsible. This lead to irresponsible postings, statements and comments and worse, maliciously generate rumors. MSM can't do that, you published an article, you are responsible for it. Owing to this, they are careful in what they report but it is being taken as favouring the establishment.
Can't we just be slightly more objective?
Well done WP in the YSL affair, albeit belatedly. -

No lah..it's stressful enough already on YSL issues. I took issue to these issues becoz I care whosoever represents the ppl must be upright in all areas of his life, or at least attempt to be upright.
VotePaP, u start new thread on this by election leh... Sounds more apt
This YSL news can take a backseat.
As far as the By-Election is concerned, may the best candidate wins. I really mean it when I said best; he or she must be a real MP truly representing the constituents, & having the best interest of the constituents at heart. Vote wisely, use head sometimes, not heart or emotion. Remember, u will get only peanuts when u vote-in monkeys. -

Wah... By election for Hougang... Dunno who will win this time...
Gahman not obliged to.
If my recollection is correct, after JBJ lost his Anson seat in 1986
after being made a bankrupt fr defamation suits,
a byelection was not called.
Anson was simply covered by MIW advisor n grassroots n subsequently absorbed into TP GRC.
Fortunately HG can be covered by AL GRC team.
Would MIW seize dis opportunity to give their man (Desmond Choo?) more prominence
n gain more ground by not calling a byelection?
I think it wld raise a stink. -

If George comes back... Sure win hands down...
Don't be too sure about dat.
d grd is still sweet for WP in HG.
It is not dat easy to win over a 30% or so advantage.
With d latest bold move, WP has won more ppl over. -
STATEMENT FROM THE WORKERS' PARTY, 15 FEBRUARY
(source: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/wp-expels-yaw-shin-leong.html)
The Workers’ Party has expelled Yaw Shin Leong from the party with immediate effect.
WP believes strongly in transparency and accountability, and expects no less from our party members, especially our Members of Parliament.
Shin Leong has been accused of several indiscretions in his private life. By continuing not to account to the Party and the people, especially the residents of Hougang, he has broken the faith, trust and expectations of the Party and People.
This is a difficult and painful decision for us. Shin Leong has been a core member of the Party leadership for more than 10 years, and has made significant and unique contributions towards WP’s growth. He has also served the residents of Hougang diligently. However, the Council has decided that it is in the public interest to take this step.
We also believe it is only fair to the Hougang residents that they have another opportunity to elect their Member of Parliament.
We apologise for having to put them through a by-election.
We wish to assure Hougang residents that they will continue to be served by the Party until the by-election is called.
The Meet the People sessions in Hougang will continue, with the other MPs covering. Residents are free to contact any WP MP for assistance. In addition, town council services will continue to be provided under the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council.
Finally, we wish to thank the public for their concern towards the Party and for walking with us through this difficult period.
Sylvia Lim
Chairman
