Seeing this thread makes me wonder if my 3 kids (10, 9 and 6) are abnormal.

They have not asked us explicitly where they come from, how did the baby got into the mummy etc.... :?

When they were younger, hubby used to tell them that they got picked up from the rubbish bin outside their pre-school. Which they don't believe and think it's a joke.

I know they won't think you can get a baby from kissing especially after watching one of Jack Neo's movies. Where the small boy made his classmate eat lots of pineapple until she had stomachable.

However, during intimate scenes on tv, we would joke about it. We would also tell my 10 yr old to ensure she don't anyhow flash herself eg. close the door when bathing otherwise people can see her breast, etc...

In fact, the word \"sex\" to my 10 yr just simply means boy or girl. :?

I taught my girl about the birds and the bees when she was 5 years old.

In the past, we would take our baths together and I would use the opportunity to talk about the parts of our body. It helped.

Books help too. I highly recommend Babette Cole's Mommy laid an egg\". the pictures are drawn in such a manner that you or your children will not be embarrassed when talking about the subject.

My p5 girl recently asked me when I had my ‘first time’. I almost fainted. I didn’t know how to answer her so I quickly changed the subject to ‘where did you read about this from?’

I found this book very useful for DD
                  http://www.amazon.com/Its-So-Amazing-Families-Library/dp/0763613215/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1343031184&sr=1-5&keywords=Puberty
Its available in the Nlb .

the author anticipates our shyness/discomfort and handles it with some humour , at the same time keeping the facts right and non-judgemental.

I chanced upon this good article in Reader's Digest. Though titled `Talking Sex with Teens', I think the tactic employed could be use for younger/older kids and for other purposes. 😄
