Leeven, congrats to your son. At least for this one, he'll get a prize for being top scorer in Math! πŸ˜„

Frankly, I do not believe that GEP screening was only for selected class. Many very very smart kids do not make it to the top classes because of Chinese, esp so for boys who are generally weaker in language. That one subject alone can pull down their averages by a lot.

GEP is a weird thing among parents. It's kinda hush-hush. We don't talk about it with other parents unless we're sure their kids got past the 1st screening - we think it is out of consideration for their feelings but when it does come out accidentally, have you encountered these replies :
\"Oh, we don't care about such things.\" or \"Was there such a test? My child didn't tell me. Guess he/she didn't sit for it.\" The mother who replied the latter, we later found out that her 2 daughters (yup different years and yet, she claimed ignorance) didn't get past the 1st screening. So, I guess those are \"save face\" remarks, not that they need to cos it's normal not to get into GEP. πŸ˜„
agree on the sensitivity, and thus did not wanna ask my sis in law when my nephew give me the blank stare on whether he has taken the screening.

came across many parents who say that too
hardly hear the parents tell me that their kids didnt pass the 1st screening at all.
most of them told me they didnt pass the 2nd screening instead
thats make me feel that the 1st screening may be easy
            :stupid:

this really depends on the school. my ds is in top class of neighbourhood school, less then half made it for rd 2. My colleague dd in rgps, heard oni 4 in top class din make it for rd2. so depends on who u talk to.

Actually, alots of parent really don't know. Either their kids is very blur don't even know they have taken the test or their kids do not want to talk about it.

My colleague & Myself didn't know this until her daughter get into the 2nd round and she mention it to me. Than we start to source all this information thru internet. πŸ˜‰

All parents have to sign a consent form from MOE to either allow/disallow their child in taking part in the GEP screening. We all know how teachers chase after these forms ...............

but is all students given consent forms? or at the mercy of the school?

Nah.. They shortlist about 4000 for round 2 then about 500 for GEP.
