..... and I as a father-to-be will want to see my son successful also in the future. But what I will do is to guide him to that path where he achieve that out of his own free will.

Really? ...... even if he decides to learn volleyball and archery?

Haha, everything is fine with me as long he does not follow in the footsteps of Annabelle Chong. :imanangel:

So you will be teaching your son piano too? ;D

Haha, not sure yet. Actually quite a few piano teachers do not teach their own kids, like Albert tiu and his wife. Maybe the kid will be more attentive if not too close with the teacher.

I play the piano but not a teacher. I've never taught my own kids piano. Closest I've come to performing with them is being accompanist, even for exams(violin). haha. My youngest goes to a teacher instead. ;D He started before his 3rd birthday. The teachers sure have a method with the very young ones.

As a piano teacher, I teach both my kids piano. To be honest, not easy. Firstly there is the issue of discipline on my part - making sure that they get their lesson once a week. Sometimes I get so tired or perhaps time is tight and I will just push back their lesson from one day to the next or to another week. Secondly, I tend to raise the standard when teaching my own kids. It’s tough maintaining a good relationship, sometimes "shang gan qing", haha! I have to stop myself before the whole thing breaks down. My mum’s a piano teacher too. She taught me briefly but in the end decided to send me to my aunt, who’s also a teacher. Reason? I kept "arguing" with her as to how the piece should be played! And how old was I then? 6. She also found giving me a proper allocated slot a problem. When I told her I was encountering the same problem and was trying to outsource, she said "what a waste of money". Ironic, huh? Haha!

Can give them 5mins lessons everyday? I see that's what Yoyo-Ma's father did.

In a way, they are already getting more than that since it's literally a lesson each time they sit at the piano to practice. 🙂 Sometimes I sit down and give a \"proper\" lesson and at other times I'd be doing my household chores or cooking or what's not and giving them a \"lesson\" at the same time.

I would like to ask the NAFA parents:

for Piano Graded lesson, do all the grades follow the same time table? if yes, what is their semester Timetable? Would like to plan for the holiday trip … already ask the teacher and counter , but seems cannot get a uniform answer …

                TIA

Each semester starts & ends closely to the (MOE) school's semester. Meaning, june school holidays = SYT's holidays, dec school holidays = SYT's holidays. So... :imcool: ... when you can. How differently can the counter & teacher respond? :scratchhead:

Of course, do factor in the date of your kiddo's external exam with ABRSM. That is, if you had arranged it to be in early July, then don't go on hols too near that date.

                    cheers

Do NAFA teachers take private ABRSM diploma students? for violin and if they do, is it conducted at their house?
