Paya Lebar Methodist Church Kindegarten - Covenant

My 2 girls are in the kindy and this is my 2 cents worth:
My elder girl is in K1 and am glad she's adjusting well as I transfered her from another kindergarten.
For my younger girl she is currently in Pre-N (N1). On the 1st day of school surprisingly she did not cry, she was in fact delighted with the number of toys she could play with. We were all very happy that she has adjusted to concept of school.
However, at the end of the week, she came home with a wound on her cheek, near the ear. She had been bitten by one of the students in her class. To cut the story short, she cries everytime we go to school in the morning, and is v fearful of me leaving.
One of the days, again it was heart rending to see her sobbing. I spoke to the Chinese teacher please reassure the girl she is so frightened. I told her, my older girl cried in N1 everyday non stop for 1 week in the end i had to withdraw her. Guess what the Chinese tr replied, \"maybe you should consider\" --i was taken aback. 'Consider what? consider withdrawing my girl? then she shot me another \"I think she is not ready (for school)\" I was quite upset because I know that my girl is ready. She is frightened now because of the incident.
In the end i spoke to the Principal and insisted that my girl be transferred to another N1 class. I told her to be fair to my girl to have a fresh start. if she keeps crying even after the change, then Yes i will withdraw her since she is not ready. Thankfully she allowed it. The Chinese tr in the other class was very warm and welcoming. She wanted to give my girl a hug when she first entered her class. The teachers made efforts to make my girl feel welcomed. Of course the first few days she still cried abit. When i went to pick up my girl after school, the ex-Chinese teacher tells me \"She is still crying, you should consider\" But when the current chinese tr brings my girl to me, she smiles and says \"She's marvelous today!\" --- and i can see my girl smiling, albeit the dried tears on her face. Now thankfully she is adjusting well and she tells me what she does in school every day.
My take is that for N1, the most impt is that the teachers are loving, caring and encouraging. I would never put my girl in the ex-class again --the chinese teacher is already biased agst her. How to be loving?
I am also of the opinion that the school snacks could be improved. So far, the kids only have porridge once a week. Other days they have Bun/Muffin/Cornflakes... I talked to a 'grandma' today at the school who had grandchildren in the kindy when they were young. She said in the past, her grandkids (who are all grown up now) had noodles, macaroni, etc but the cook has just retired. Then i compared with my daughter's ex-kindy --there is indeed a difference. her ex-sch has noodles, macaroni, fried rice etc. much better than bun/muffin/cornflakes?
that 'grandma' says i should tell the principal/write to the school. But i am loath to do that, coz i was pretty insistent with the P whent i wanted to change my girl's class. Don't want the P to think i am some troublemaker

hi mommies any more comments on this kindy…
I am totally at a lost now…
he is in LSK nursery 2…but he wants out…he tried Zion kindergarten chinese lession (serangoon) and wants the sportball programme…
I mean i can’t even find a neg comment on LSK so I don’t really understand why he just feel it’s not for him…
he says 'chinese teacher too fast just sit and talk". and too crowded and noisy (cos nursery is partition) so he gets distracted lolz…ok ok i shan’t laugh…dr said those are valid reasons…
so i am looking around…can’t decide on Zion cos I can’t find any recent comments…teachers would have changed i believed since like 2 years back and new programmes…soo…hopefully can find a mommy whose kid is there and has some feedback …
also looking at paya lebar methodist kindy so posting here…thanks much! -
Sassyfire
Will u change his primary sch next time when he complains about his teacher? Something to think about. U may be changing schools every year if u do that. -
And paya lebar is definitely not suitable if he complains of noise. They have 4 classes in one room. U can try Calvary baptist kindy.

tks...nope i won't change his primary...if i ever give in this time..cos i take i consideration he has never been to a school setting, and we will like him to take to school positively before moving him to a bigger setting so he learns to accept things in his own pace rather than forcing it on him...eventually i am sure he will get used to school so big class small class, it won't make a difference.
chinese class in LSK is only 25mins once a day...not sure if everyday....but i know other schools are longer...so i don't think the 25 mins will be affect him so much...as to just not learning much from it i guess...till he gets over her teaching method? or we just have to reinforce what he learns in chinese class....
enrichment not an option at the moment due to personal matters hence that is why we are so bothered about the chinese part of it....sigh.
but yes, my uncle did make the same comment yesterday as u about changing schools...it came across my mind.
i know i will have to just pray about it and make a final decision soon....tks

my kid has been in this preschool since N1. while N1 i thought it was only ok… nothing fantastic… the experience with the school in N2 and K1 got worse.
esp the english teachers didnt seem as patient and passionate and in a year they kept changing the english teachers which I feel is very disruptive to the kid. several times teachers also do not communicate properly to the kid or parents / guardian. some of the teacher are quite blur but yet defensive over their blurness which I absolutely hate.
to be fair since N1, all the chinese teachers are very good. very passionate with the kids. but unfortunately good english teachers are far from few.
they go on several field trips but after each trip there is no update on how the field trip went or they also dont send us pictures on the trip. and almost every field trip, they are brought to McDonald’s for lunch which I feel is rather unhealthy. They have a portal which you need to pay and twice a year they will update the portal on the progress of your child. there are some photos in it but its distorted and you cant even download them. I dont understand why we need to pay for a portal that is not informative or interactive at all. Plus the update is only twice a year.
During a meet the parents session, the teachers are supposed to run through the portal on what they had updated about your child. One year, the teacher who seemed to have difficulty in scrolling the portal, told us ‘You are better with this. You can login and surf and read it yourself’. That’s it! We took leave to attend the MPS and that is all she told us. Freaking waste of our leave!
the principal is a very motherly person but i feel not responsive enough. its hard to reach her via the phone. emailing her also will take her ages to reply. sometimes after weeks i have to send her email reminders b4 she reply. in the current world, i think slow response for emails are really not acceptable.
and already the lesson is short (3 hrs) which include morn assembly with prayer session, breakfast, study and play. Basically that 3 hours is very rush so I think academic wise, its not really sufficient. Yet they squeezed in a 1 hour IT lesson from K1 onwards during lesson. This is optional and you need to pay extra for it. I feel this should not be conducted during lesson unless its not chargeable. Most of the kids attend so if I do not let my kid attend, he feels left out. This is perfectly fine if the paid lesson is held after their 3 hours class.
the only thing i love about the school is the physical environment. clean and conducive for the child to play and grow. other than that the way the school operates as well as the pool of english teachers they have… they need to buck up by a lot.
I’m in the midst of considering pulling my boy out. Now I am quite torn. Not sure where should I put my child in. Gotta do some work…
2 yrs ago my buddy pulled her boy out from this preschool and I couldnt understand why. Now I can fully understand why she did that.
