Hi Whitety, if ur kid stop going for CCA after SYF, what is the consequences? If nothing serious then can stop after SYF to concentrate on preparing for exam. I will get my DS to stop after SYF, think the teacher will understand.

If stop cca before the june if attendance is

less than 75% it will not be recorded in the
        report book.

And will this affect dsa application?

            Hi Flowermonaster,

I also do not know what’s the consequences. Most likely will be same problem as Herbie. Will talk to the teacher after the SYF.

            Thanks!
Who bears the consequence if you allow the school to make the choice over the use of YOUR child's time?

              Wow, beanbear... :thankyou:
so much for your advice and detailed sharing. It has really changed the way I see things -- I hv never questioned teachers' rights to dictate the use of my child's time to do homework, attend supp classes, go back on weekends etc....However, I may not have the guts or energy to do half the things you do.. you are a good mum! :goodpost:
If u r thinking abt pulling yr dd frm supplementary classes, you better discuss this with yr dd first to see if she is comfortable with this decision, as for my dd she became upset & stressed when I told her abt this possibility. She has witnessed upset teachers reacted in her classes when there were parents who don't allow their dc to attend supp. Every child is different, if yr dd is the type who don't feel comfortable to go against the flow, she may find it stressfull. There's no point for me forcing it upon my dd when she is not happy abt it, so i let her attend her supp.classes 3x a week ! + 1 math enrichment class conducted by school after school hr. :faint: n the supp.classes already started since first week of Jan, + tons of home work everyday...

Last yr in P5 she only had 1 Chinese tuition, this yr P6 we decided fr no tuition at all, no point sending tired n sleepy child fr tuition.. hw effective the tuition can be..
She has no problem in handling homework, she has her secret weapon  whenever she hs opportunity in school she would do her homework.. i.e:after finishing her work sheet at class she'd do some of her HW while waiting for her classmate to finish doing their's, when her teacher absent ussually the relieve teacher doesn't teach much (according to her) so she would do some HW during that time, n after lunch at canteen while waiting fr her supplementary class to start she'd also squeeze in some HW to do, etc... that way she would be more efficient with her time at school, i.e: finish her work sheet soon so she wd hv extra minutes, pay attention well during classes as she realize not enough time fr revision at home. She hs been doing this since P5 by her own initiative eversince she found out that this would help her to hv spare time at home to play computer 🙂 I only need to check her HW at home & guide her in doing correction...
She still goes to playground daily, to meet up n play with friends n although she no longer hv time for piano class but i encourage her to play piano daily to destress..

Me too - thanks to all for sharing - especially beanbear, Peony ! Gives me courage to go against the 'compulsory' !!! I must admit it is tough, I don't know why but I feel guilty ! Why ? This is my child, his time, our consquences to bear.

Why is it the schools are reacting this way ? Fear that the whole class will follow suit ? Fear that the parent is not able to \"teach as well as the teacher\" ? I just don't get it or maybe they just need to follow the routine to express disapproval ?

Like Peony, we are trying out best to avoid catch-up stress hence moving full-steam ahead for CA1.
Yes, my dear, we are still in the same boat. Who's rowing ah? :boogie:

Oh beanbear, how I wish your DD can share with my DD2 her secret weapon. My DD2 is really just the opposite of your DD. She is alone at home till abt 6.30-7pm on weekdays as hubby & I work and DD1 is in sec school till quite late in the evening. She usually completes less than 1/3 of her HW before I return (I don’t think she does any of her HW at school). She starts getting kan cheong and rushes thru her school work only after dinner. Even then, I literally have to sit next to her to ensure that she focuses on her work.

I feel so bad because DD2 and I have had so many heated discussions regarding the need for her to be more focused and work on her time management skills. Both of us are so frustrated and upset after these sessions. I can see that she seems to sian and tired of doing the endless pile of worksheets from her teachers. She also tends to get many questions wrong due to untidiness, carelessness, teacher never teach concept yet, wrong way of answering science questions, high HMT/EL compo standard, etc.. Thus, she has the added burden of doing tons of corrections, in addition to her tons of HW. Seems like a vicious cycle of mounting corrections and HW. However, what I don’t understand is that she usually does pretty ok for her exams (she even received the 5% edusave sch award for P5 last year). But her HW standard now is in quite a bad shape. I don’t wish for her to start to losing her confidence for PSLE (frankly I feel so bad that secretly, I think I may doubting her abilities too…)

Wow! Your child's school so strict with the P6pers huh? Those P6pers already spent so much time preparing for SYF so hopefully the teachers can be more lenient & let them stop as early as possible. Furthermore, the kids might not be able to turn up for CCA due to supp classes. According to my DS's teacher supp class for all P6 supersede all activities. So school cannot penalize students due to that.

My dd’s sch has no supp class just remedial classes for the weaker students for the various subjects. But she is busy with syf training, mo training and the various project work.

I really dun think her cca teacher will let the p6s stop their cca after syf… She is srict and always go by the book.
