I knew it was in the circular they brought back but apparently info on that is not quite accurate. My DS told me e philosophy test is next week but circular states as this week. It's quite confusing ...

My DS appeal at CCA was superficious. I was rather disappointed at the school for the way his case was handled. He was told to stay in Red Cross for another 6 months n see how things go. I thought I can let my DS handle the situation himself - in line with what e school wants. But the tr hardly hears him out n just told him to stay put.
Looks like the parents n doctor have to step in. If the school is looking for higher authoritative instructions (fr doctor) instead of listening out to the student when he appeals, then isn't it quite sad?
If ultimately he has to switch, why can't they make provision now instead of making waste 6 months of his time?
Did anyone appeal? Anyone knows of the success rate?
Since your DS has a valid reason (medical), you should go ahead and talk to the teachers-in-charge (for both Red Cross & Water Polo or Drama) and explain to them your DS' condition, supported by a letter from the doctor. With the doctor's letter, I am sure the school will look seriously into your DS' appeal this time.. Good Luck! -

虽然2011年A水准会考成绩还没有出炉，但莱佛士书院毕业生史方颖和苏谦威已经分别获得美国普林斯顿大学和宾夕法尼亚大学的提前录取。跻身国际名牌学府的竞争越来越激烈，而两人指出，他们能成功圆梦，“莱佛士文凭”为他们增值不少。
继另一所直通车学校华侨中学在2008年颁发自家的“华中文凭”（Hwa Chong Diploma）后，莱佛士书院隔年也推出了针对高中生的莱佛士文凭（Raffles Diploma）。去年毕业的莱佛士书院生是第一批获得莱佛士文凭的校友。
如史方颖和苏谦威一样，今年获得美国常春藤学校和当地其他名校提前录取（early admission）的莱佛士书院毕业生有50人。莱院校长郑丽增指出，和上届毕业生相比，今年获得美国大学提前录取的学生人数翻了几倍。另外，至少69 人已获得英国剑桥和牛津大学有条件录取。这两个数字也创下了该校的纪录。
莱佛士文凭依据莱佛士综合课程量身定做，是校方花了四年制定的等级认证系统。它分别评估学生在认知、品格与领导、社区公益与公民性、体育及健康、艺术与美育五大领域的表现。
在五个领域中达到基本要求的学生都能获得莱佛士文凭，优秀文凭（Raffles Diploma with Merit）则颁发给达到基本要求并在其中一个领域有优秀表现的学生。这些学生同时也必须附上一篇有关他们参与各种活动后得出什么人生体验的短文。要获得最高等级的特优文凭（Raffles Diploma with Distinction）必须“闯”三关，即基本达标并在至少一个领域有卓越表现、附上一份个人简介，以及获得评估委员会的推荐。评估委员会由莱佛士书院教师、杰出校友和业界人士组成。
去年1250名毕业生当中，25%获得基本文凭、50%取得优秀文凭、20%获颁特优文凭。5%的学生因为达不到标准，没有获得莱佛士文凭。
郑丽增说：“我们走访的本地和海外大学都对莱佛士文凭给予很高的评价。一般高中没有这样严格、系统化及全面的认证系统。这些大学的申请者往往成绩优秀，几乎每科都拿A。莱佛士文凭还突出学生在个别方面的优异表现，协助大学招生处更好地做出选择。” -

For science, I think he screwed up the practical a bit - his peg which held the test tube caught fire (well, according to him, not really fire but sparks - then there's smell) BeHe said the teacher noticed. Before the practical during the lesson the teacher did emphasise on safety measures. Not sure if that affected but he didn't do too badly too. -

With the introduction of the gap year, I'm sure the Raffles Diploma will become even more impressive.
some of them perhaps got chance for overseas industrial attachment or community work, in addition to what is available locally -

Not to worry, paddy.. Maybe different teachers administer various tests on different days, depending on the class' time-table. For instance, DS' Philosophy teacher told the class that there would be Philo Test this week (Mon or Thurs). Since the class did not have the test on Monday, the boys expect the test would be on Thursday (today). Think DS' class has not have their History Test yet. Will check with DS when he comes home later.

I'm not worried, just confused. Aft DS psle, he's pretty much on his own. That was why I let him settle his own CCA appeal. I seem to declare myself free from motherhood n gotten back to my crafting n painting. But now i m forced to act again. Sigh! Ds met e waterpolo coach yesterday n the coach seemed surprised that he's not in e team.
