Hi aqualuna
Did your DD complete the pink-blue-green schemes in 11 months? Or only up to blue scheme? Can your DD read by herself now?
My DS only started pink scheme recently (another centre)… wondered how long it will take for him… -

Hi,
I also send my DS to weekly phonics class altho he is attending CC.dearzen:
Hi,
I'm aso a KSM 2! :rotflmao:
My DD is in CC, N2. She will be taught Phonics, Reading etc.
Hmm... Do u all think I need to send my DD for phonics lessons at other phonics centres?
Any Mummies whose kids in CC, can pls share their experience? Do u or do not send?
Thanks!
Most CCs do teach phonics using Letterland, Jolly Phonics etc, but I realise what they learn are still pretty elementary, e.g. still doing letter sounds at the start of K1 level.
At least at the phonics class, the teacher will go thr' the sounds/word blending/building together with the kids in a more structured manner and more imptly, some phonics programme will progress your kids to next level according to their ability, not age.
My DD learning word blending, learn to read in N2, according to the teacher. The teacher asks me to hold on abt sending my DD to extra classes.
But being a KS Mummy, I will keep following up with the teachers. In any case tat my DD no progress, will immediately send for extra classes. -
my DS1 is K1 now. He was at I can read since last year June and attendign TCS level. it was going to finish the 3 terms. I am so worry that he did not pass on his promotion assessment just last 2 weeks, so he can’t be promoted to preliminary even. I was wondering if TCS, taking up 4-5 terms, premilinary another few terms…how long he can start on the actual ICR programme.
My worry is he has speech and language difficuties when pronouns 'S, F, H…" .
should i bring him to see consultant? any consultant / therapy can recommend? -

I took her to a speech therapist for about 15 sessions with little improvement. I understand that speech therapy is a long term treatment.
My friend who is also a speech therapist advised me to practice it at home with her instead paying so much money to send her to a private practice.
She also told me that it may be of concerned but some kids only develop those sounds at 6. -
Hello,
I would like to have some feedback, if any, on IReadNWrite - Children's Cottage at Pandan Valley. They do not teach phonics, but rather whole-language approach. My 3 yr 3mth (N2) daughter has been with them for about 6 months. They use Ginn readers.
I am not sure if i need to send my daughter for phonics class, as her kindergarten is teaching it. So far, N2 - they are teaching the sounds of individual alphabets. I guess, next year they will teach blending.
Anyone has tried them before? Any feedback? Thanks!

Hello!
I am a newbie here but a super KS mum!!
I would like to share my experience with GUG.
Both my kids, aged 5 and 3, study at GUG currently. They started at 19 and 10 months respectively. Both kids master the 26 sounds from A-Z before they entered N1. At N1, they are exposed to blending and by end of N2, my DD masters the blending and are able to read simple books. GUG has a mini reader each week. The mini reader emphasize on sight words and phonetic words.
My DD who is attending K1 is currently learning blending of digraphs. Now, whenever she sees new words, she will try to blend them and once she gets the sound of the word she knows the word.
Personally, I am not phonics trained. But I can see the benefits of learning phonics. My DD can read almost effortlessly. She only has to make an effort to memorise the sight words. Spelling is also easier for her. She can spell words as long as they can hear the sound. So simple words like cat, dog, fan, hand, jump etc she can spell without memorising them.
So far, I am very pleased with the Zoo phonics teaching at GUG. It is very structured and it delivers results.
Being a KS mum, I have once send my DD to ICR (Goldhill) after hearing alot of positive feedback. My DD was put in TCS level after assessment. I observed the class being held and was totally disappointed. I feel that it’s a waste of my time and money as the phonics curriculum at GUG is so much richer.
