This is ideal but reality not many parents will want to be involved.

Get rid of the grassroot priority. Don't you think it is an abuse by the ruling party to give school priority to volunteers who further its own political cause? I mean regardless of WHO is the ruling party. In future it could be an opposition party. Any ruling party should NOT abuse the system to give priority to its own grassroot people.

grassroot organisation also organised community events together with the school. So not entire true that those GRLs have no contribution to the school

no. how would the kids benefit? (not in the sense of priority admission.. but educational needs assuming all schools are same).

Building a \"connection\" is different.. nowadays, the schools all talking about parental involvement and teacher-parent connections.... isn't it? That's is one area where PV might come in.. maybe that is their intended outcome but unfortunately it results in \"unfair\" priority to admission as perceived by the parents.

Reviewing P1 registration actually contradicts what Mr Heng said about neighbourhood schools are also good. If neighbourhood schools are good too, then why MOE acknowledges the problems with the P1 registration process bought up by parents who obviously do not think that all schools are the same and only want to enrol their kids in a few good school.

As it is, there is no fair way to do this. No matter what MOE does, there will be unfairness even with proximity which will benefit the rich or PR. In fact, I am surprised that they are actually reviewing it. In my opinion, MOE shld not waste their resources reviewing something which cannot be fair, no matter how they tweak it. They shld spend time and resources in reviewing the education system to ensure that all schools get the same resources and bring up the standard of those schools to be on par with the so called good school. Then maybe parents will not place too much emphasis on which school they register in.

resources should be in for a better education..attracting/retaining gd teachers !!

Why you give siblings priority for?
If we keep the alumni priority, then ALL your kids can get into the school using the parent's alumni priority. There is hence no need for siblings priority.

Furthermore, is it very important for all siblings to be studying in the same school? Not really right? Same school but different sessions also different mah? Wear hand me downs? No right?

Anyway, to illustrate an example, one friend's kid was in a neighbourhood school but at P3 got into a GEP school, famous brand-name girls school! Then subsequently her younger sister went into P1 using siblings priority. Is it fair? One more place taken away from those who stay nearer to the school. So imagine the cross-migration every-year from GEP students to GEP schools. Their siblings also ride on the coat-tail get into these schools. Fair??

Once upon a time it used to be those missions schools or charitable foundations schools are really set-up and run by the clan associations and of the same religious/charitable orders for their members. Is this still applicable in the current context whereby such schools are already all 'government run'?

I would say if the priority door is opened too wide, get rid of this as well!

Actually when my 15yo heard about the possibility of this Alumni priority being abolished, he was quite unhappy about it. In my opinion, he didn't inherit it, we balloted for it, he has gained from the primary school, and he has also contributed loads during his time there. So I don't see why alumni priority is not fair? Same goes for my other boys.

Let's set the priorities right..

Which comes first? Best interest in the child's education needs (transport, parental involvement, understanding of schools systems, logistics etc..), or \"Fairness\"?

Again, don't talk abt school ranking etc.. from MOE's pov, all schools are the same. This is the base.. and we work on from there.

If anyone wants to talk abt school ranking.. then.. is there going to be tier A schools.. 1 set of rules..? tier B schools.. another set..?!?!???? If no, they're not going to do this, then, let's talk on the principle that \"All school are the same\".. and determine what is \"in the best interest of the child's education needs\".
