MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
-
3Boys:
ya.... there should be a cap on this just like there is a cap in P2B
So perhaps a restriction on the percentage (which should be small) for alumni, and to ballot it the applications exceed for that phase, and the rest for 2B/C. -

pple are grumbling cos things do not go in accordance with their plans - hence not abt the distance/ phases issue - but rather a 'popular school issue'.
:rahrah: the whole issue evolve around popular schools. Think typical neighbourhood schools don't have this issue -

But BEFORE entering the school, they have NO concept of the tradition! Can they not have the same positive experience in a DIFFERENT school? Its us adults transferring our sentiments onto the child, its our own vanity, if I may say so. -
limlim:
That will be at Phase 2A(2)
of \"existing students\" only..3Boys:
Siblings is Phase 1.
or applies to ex-student also? (i.e. age gap > 6 yrs.) -
caroline3sg:
he school can take PV from existing students' parents if they need help. These parents have stake in their children's well being, so they are naturally a good choice.
This is ideal but reality not many parents will want to be involved. -

new pri school in new housing estate also face the same problemvicki:

MOE / HDB's planning problems -
DesertWind:
Get rid of the grassroot priority. Don't you think it is an abuse by the ruling party to give school priority to volunteers who further its own political cause? I mean regardless of WHO is the ruling party. In future it could be an opposition party. Any ruling party should NOT abuse the system to give priority to its own grassroot people.
grassroot organisation also organised community events together with the school. So not entire true that those GRLs have no contribution to the school -
3Boys:
no. how would the kids benefit? (not in the sense of priority admission.. but educational needs assuming all schools are same).Ok OT.
My previous question on PV. How about I hire a gardener/electrician/piano teacher/sports coach to do the task on my behalf. Will do a better job than I right?
School benefits, kids benefit, I benefit.
Logical?
Building a \"connection\" is different.. nowadays, the schools all talking about parental involvement and teacher-parent connections.... isn't it? That's is one area where PV might come in.. maybe that is their intended outcome but unfortunately it results in \"unfair\" priority to admission as perceived by the parents. -

Reviewing P1 registration actually contradicts what Mr Heng said about neighbourhood schools are also good. If neighbourhood schools are good too, then why MOE acknowledges the problems with the P1 registration process bought up by parents who obviously do not think that all schools are the same and only want to enrol their kids in a few good school.Daddy

As it is, there is no fair way to do this. No matter what MOE does, there will be unfairness even with proximity which will benefit the rich or PR. In fact, I am surprised that they are actually reviewing it. In my opinion, MOE shld not waste their resources reviewing something which cannot be fair, no matter how they tweak it. They shld spend time and resources in reviewing the education system to ensure that all schools get the same resources and bring up the standard of those schools to be on par with the so called good school. Then maybe parents will not place too much emphasis on which school they register in.
30 yrs ago .. student teacher ratio was 40:1
now also 40:1...
resources should be in for a better education..attracting/retaining gd teachers !!
