I so hope that next yr, no centre can claim that the top student studied in their centre. So that it makes sense, all these arguing in this forum about the P1 registration. -

Yes, so true. Those who push for 2A to be reviewed will then not want 2A to be reviewed after they got in!!
MOE shld really look at the real reason why this P1 registration is a real problem this last few years before they start doing anything. Too many PR due to PR explosion the last few years ? Cut in number of places available? Parents more kiasu as a lot is at stake esp with IP program etc? Reading this thread where no matter what you do, some will be happy while others will not. It looks like the most acceptable thing to do is to give priority to Singaporeans to register first. -

Not everyone can join the learning lab or mindstretcher. You need to take an entry test. Chances are these students themselves are very smart.Hard to say how much values are added by the tuition centers.

1st, have to pass Learning Lab's entry tests, and then apply to MOE to be exempted from Compulsory schooling. Even MOE checks if you are really teaching your child at home or farm out, ok.

A mummy drove Porsche to do Pv ( traffic control )at nanyang told me she rented a pty near nanyang to ensure their address is within 1 km . She said it's worthwhile as it benefits a few generations to come.
So far, those from nanyang that I have known of did very well for their PSLE .it is as good as saying once u got in to nanyang , u are 50% assured to get 250 as above for your PSLE. :hugs:
That's why many parents would like to put their kids in nanyang. 50 percent chance to get above 250. How can all schools be the same? Look at the psle result or the program in the school, you know they are not. I think the most important person in the school is the principal. He sets the tone and direction for the school. Maybe moe should look at schools that have been performing badly and try to raise their standard. If all schools standard does not differ too greatly, p1 registration will be much easier. -

I think the present system of Pri 1 allocation is quite fair, but some loopholes should be removed.
For instance, I have heard of parents (both local and PR) buying uncompleted properties within 1km of \"good schools\", using that address to apply for the school, but planning (right fr day one) to rent out the property when its TOPs.
And I feel that parents who have already done volunteer work to put their child in the school should be allowed to enter the school. That said, is perhaps unavoidable that sometimes schools will miscalculate the number of vacancies it has for this phase. So perhaps schools should give places to the children of PV who have put in the most number of hours. So say, for instance, the school anticipates that there will be 40 places for PVs. It allows 40 parents to do PV work for the year before the child applies for Pri 1. The school can stipulate say 40h, but encourage PV to do more. And say if, at the application date, the school only finds 30 vacancies, then it gives these 30 vacancies to the 30 PV with the highest number of volunteer hours clocked in, while the remaining 10 PVs will have to ballot.
I think a forum like this is great to throw up different ideas - because we can all point of the pros & cons of these ideas. Some will take an personal, selfish viewpoint, while other will take an altruistic, balanced, longer term viewpoint. For the former, I say, becareful what you wish for because sometimes you get your wish - and it turns out to have quite unpleasant side-effects.

Ya hor! It would require more manpower to monitor PV hours put in, so ⦠in order to not further burden the teachers, get other volunteers to do it. Actually, to really be fair, applicants from all phases should do volunteer work in school. So, for phase 1, parents of existing pupils should do PV work in school for a stipulated number of hours for their 2nd child to gain admission under phase 1.
For phase 2a, alumni should also do a stipulated number of hours before they qualify for phase 2a. Same goes for phase 2b.
Then get a volunteer from one phase to do the administrative affairs for volunteers from another phase.
