Want to help a fren find out more if anyone here heard of an MOE new initiative - Music Telent Development Centre? Anyone ds/dd has participated in the programme? If so what kind of time commitment like and whether worth the time spent? Does it add value to the students profile beside get to attend free lessons? understand it is not to substitute cca attendance.

It is not true that guitar is easy to get in. Several of DS friends placed guitar as top choices but still didnt get in. 1 of them is appealing but still no news of success yet. They are only taking 13 year one this year.
oh i see. I thought someone mentioned it was quite easy.

Do u know if those taking guitar - which days are their CCAs? Need any basic music skills?

Maybe your friend meant, once you get into Guitar, it is relatively 'easy', compared to other core musical CCAs. For instance, Guitar's 4 hours a week is definitely less time-consuming than RV's 8 hours a week (Wed 3.30-7pm, Sat 8.30am-1pm).

Perhaps your friend didn't mean 'easy' to get into Guitar. DS has friends who put Guitar as 1st choice but didn't get selected (and they do have musical background too).

              Perhaps....

              thanks, firefly and RSS!

BTW, ds went for kayaking over the weekend. He found it enjoyable but came back very very red! Got sunburnt even though he applied sunblock. Anyway, he should be getting his certificate in kayaking - hopefully. (must pass then can get the cert). He said it's a very strenuous activity - the kayaks are very heavy. It's good training for NS - haha! But the important thing is - he is enjoying it πŸ™‚

                  Firefly,

U mean e newspaper test? Or the 私函 test? My DS got back none yet. Any of u know about e cultural events/reports e boys have to do for 2% of their overall? And some of activities always crash w other things such as CCA, third Lang or PSGM. Can anyone explain why psgm is given such high priority?

Also is the 2% is worth the amount of time e boys have to put in? I think it’s like a few hrs to earn only 1%

glad to see yr DS enjoying and making new friends too, hopefully. :imcool:

outdoor sports are usually very fun for the boys, good for them to spend their energy physically to even out their sch work πŸ˜‰

Ds has decided to stay on with BB. A lot of events, I find - next weekend got to go kayaking course, then march hols got to attend 3 days camp.

Kayaking is fun, they will enjoy it. And yes, most sports have activities, tournaments and events, but this is a good balance to the boys' studies, imo. I feel that the sports CCA ( and UGs ) actually help the boys de-stress from their studies. πŸ˜„

                    Paddyfield,

If yr DS feel strongly, dont give up on the CCA appeal, tell yr DS to approach the teacher in charge of the CCA of his choice. My DS also took a month before he got transferred to his preferred sports CCA. Good luck

Yah, firefly - ds didn't get back his other chinese test on newspaper article leh. Unless he didn't tell me. Only the shi han one he got back- lost marks in content cuz went slightly out of point. So just passed... I heard this Friday there is another Chinese test for ds class. But he has to return to his primary school for an event. When he told his Chinese teacher that, his teacher said no re-test for him - that means, he has to rely on his mid year exams. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad depending on the level of difficulty of the test. He is quite bad at duan wen tian kong section. But if geog test is on this Friday, I really hope they can arrange for a re-test.

@PaddyField - is PSGM the peer support thingy? If it is, I seem to recall it's not every week right? I'm not sure about the 2% cultural report. Will ask ds if he knows anything abt it when he comes home.
