Hi my DS & DD are particularly weak in Paper 2, any one can share tips on how to guide them to improve this section? My DD is having PSLE this year. My DD failed this section since P5 and recent P6 CA1. Any tutors to recommend as I think she really needs one now to guide her along though she kept insisting she can manage on he own. Sigh…

In order to do well in Paper2, You have to work from the root of the problem--- understanding the topic! But not merely from the text. If the child only understand the text, she may be able to pass paper1 but not 2!

After she has understand the topic, drill her by doing as many P2 questions from the same topic as possible. Get different assessment books ( at least 3-4) to give her a feel of the kind of questions which can be related to the topic, often, these questions r similar. As the saying goes practise makes perfect. When shes done w all these questions she should be ready. Get some exam papers( Pass yr PSLE papers or other school papers) Test her by choosing question from the same topic, if shes able to answer them with ease...Bingo! She has master the topic, u can then move on to the next! Else stay on and practise more.

PS: the past yr PSLE papers is use to test her cuz its is an indicator as to whether she is ready

Hi Superbugs,

I think what you can do is to go thru the recent CA1 and her P5 SA2's answer sheet from the teacher. Usually children just copied down the answer without understanding why they got it wrong in the first place. Compare teacher's answer and your DD's answer, usually the children know the concept tested but it is the answering technique that we need to help them.

the ans sheet stated (2) but my answer is (4).... Can anyone confirm ? :?

I think the key word 'pollen tube' is missing in option 2. Option 4 may be correct. See link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollen first para, 2nd sentence.
