My girl lagi best. She comes home, tells me that she did not get full marks for her maths test, her maths teacher tells her\" i thought you are a smart/ clever girl but you are not.'i was like  i asked her what makes the teacher thinks you are smart, she says dun know[/quote]

some teachers are too much...they'd need a refresher in Psychology101. Also don't think its good for teachers to announce marks in front of the whole class. Some teachers feel that humiliation is a good motivator...it might work up to a certain point before kids end up as an unfortunate statistic at IMH.

it seems that for my girl's school, her teachers, maths or english they will announce who has full marks, who are the one fails and how many failed and how many marks are considered pass.Somemore these test are considered mock test, not taken into account. Only starting from term 2, then all these tests result will be taken into account. So i dunno y the need to humiliate, just an encouragement will do the job.

This will never happen because of the Bell Curve, right Chenonceau?
Which is why the exam gets tougher each year.

Donno lah... no need to crack our brains to help MOE think of good ideas to improve schools for our kids. If at first they still think

                    (1) MOE is world class
                    (2) All schools are same good

... they won't accept any further thinking or suggestions. We must first get them to admit that there is a need to improve mah... One step at a time. No amount of smart stats will help if they deny that there is a need to improve EVEN BASIC TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS in schools.

That's why to prevent from happening they have to Teach Less in school, the child Learn More (from whoever ShiFu or wherever tuition centres) and they test even more to see how much the child learn.

P6 already doing algebra now...in 10 yrs they'll be doing differentiel equations for PSLE.

i said this on another thread... when 2 kids, a singaporean and a european/australian/etc, end up in the same university class, the only difference is that one had a proper childhood playing and enjoying while the other spent his doing assessment books and attending classes. And guess which child is more likely to earn a Nobel Prize.
