I agree that many schools have longer hours and more homework and are terribly organised. But I guess I must be one of the minority who does not believe that the more hw the better. On the contrary, I wish the child has more time to play, socialise, go outdoor and explore things outside of the curriculum. This is why I said the hours are long; esp when the child needs to stay back 3 times a week till 4pm for CCA and supplementary, an average of 2 to 3 hours worth of hw (and she’s one who is focused). I addition, supplementary is now on Friday, which means that teachers have no qualms about issuing hw, cos they have the weekend to complete. There is hardly any time left for other things, much less tuition and other enrichment classes. My child only has Chinese tuition and swimming class. Just my 2 cents worth.

You will be able to see that the school did very well in 2011. Much better than many other schools in CCK, Bt Panjang area.

My two girls are in the school. As we had to go through balloting (>2km), I wasn't sure if I want to take the risk or just enrol in a nearby school. But now I am so very glad I made that decision. My girls are so very happy in that school. They were given so much leadership opportunities. I also appreciate the amount of school work they are given as they do not attend outside tuition. Many times, I suspect those who complained that their kids are having too much school work are those who parents who arranged tuition. Their kids had to complete school work and tuition work as well.

You said that >2km needs ballotting. Which phase are you referring to? We are staying way beyond 2km but will be registering under Phase 2B as we are catholics.

I just called SJC Student Care and was told that their Student Care closed down in Nov/Dec last year. Any idea where do the girls go to now?

Again, as I do not have or use student care services, I really have no idea and this is where others may advice better.

The school bus company is pretty decent. Nothing major to complain about, really.
Like I said previously, it is already very good that they do two home runs... One after school, and the other after CCA. So, the girls usually have transport back that is already arranged. Thinking about it, you can imagine what a logistical nightmare it can be. So much so that other schools (and bus companies) do not even bother to help coordinate.

We were under Phrase 2C four years ago. If I remembered correctly, there were <40 places for 110 applicants.

My girls had CCA every Tues, Thurs and Supplementary every Friday. Come mid March, they will be having Chinese Speech and Drama every Monday. So the only time they come home at 1:45pm is Wed. They dismissed at 4pm all other days.

They had this type of time schedule since Pri 1. However, I must mention that they are the ones who wanted to opt for all these extra activities. I do monitor their energy level to avoid burnt out. But so far so good.

I do know of parents who didn’t opt for any of these extra after school activities as their daughters have to attend private tuition/ ballet/ piano classes. So it is still up to the parents/ students whether they want to attend.

Same as Riverbell, my girls opt for what they want, and I just support as much as I can. I only apply the condition that they do what they like, the best they can, and they take responsibility to finish what they started.


This school already has enough programs to cover an overall development, particularly in leadership. I see my girls from being a bit apprehensive to willing to take the lead and having a positive outlook about leadership.

IMHO, the long hours can be there, but it is about converting the long hours into worthy hours.

Hello CHIJ Moms, my DD will be going into P1 registration this year and I am considering CHIJ QLP and De La Salle. I stay in CCK but would not mind the journey to QLP. Would like to ask your advice how is the school environment, teachers and culture? Thank you in advance for your help.
