It is a no brainer that we should not have tuition n enrichment centres as an integral part of our lives but the question is can we? After reading these threads about some schools not teaching but merely testing, before we ban tuition centres we should ban exam papers that test students beyond what they r taught in school. Seriously we should question the effectiveness of \"teach less learn more\".

Not necessarily..

nowadays Teacher can afford to teach less and less because parent go to enrichment classes.. and the vicious cycle repeats..

If enrichment classes are banned, then students hv nowhere to go to but to reply on the school teachers (except some with private tutors). Then the teachers have no choice but to teach properly, and adjust the exam papers accordingly.

A few student who can afford tuition and maybe stay in front (but not too far away) is ok and acceptable. but not the masses like 90% of the class ahead of the school's pace..

Once enrichment classes are banned, majority of abled students will stay at the school's pace. There is little pressure to get tuition to stay ahead of the classes.. And tuition will be seek by the few minority who need the extra help.. just like the old days.. everything will fall back in place.

So.. the first step to take is.. ban enrichment centers! who agrees?
The key point is.. most of the time, most kids go enrichment classes not to be the top few.. but to take up with the schools pace which gotten faster and faster.. which is a result of students going for enrichment classes and so on....

Take out the root of the problem.. and set things right.

ban enrichment centers! - I know this will never happen in the real world but i still support your idea. Let MOE pay for the copyright/patent for ALL the resources (teaching materials & teachers) and distribute them to all gov schools. :congrats:

By then MOE will say All Schools are BEST Schools. :rahrah:
Sounds like a real disadvantage to students whose parents can't teach them at home - either due to work or educational background.

Enrichments are legal business how to ban ??

That is why i say have schools from 8:00am till 6:00 pm
All CCAs and school enrichment/supp classes, additional time- have some outdoor play and self study time ( when they can do some homework too).

Go home - no time to go to enrichments šŸ˜†

My understanding is cut down already...so it should be less than 10 now.. šŸ˜‚ But I understand the long hours was to do school's work, not tuition work.

I don't think it will help.there are weekends and kiasu parents.
This will achieve by
*moe textbooks( specially written by highly educated person appointed by moe with high salary) with copyright and distribute to all schools
*test in the book
