Parents, not enrichment centres, are key to result

my friend sent her kid to a school in pandan valley daily for 2 hr of chinese when in nursery.


he is in p2 now, doing well in this subject.

i didnt send mine there. doing it with him at home myself but can vomit blood.

sometimes I wonder, do the kids behave this way in school. if yes, teachers mah damn busy ?!?!

I just learn today that one of my DD's classmates attends chinese enrichment for 2 hrs weekly. Unbelievable! How can a 4-yr-old sit still for 2 hrs of tuition?

The education scene here is getting really scary.

unfortunately for chinese, some words have too many strokes and the strokes must be written in certain ways. wrong count of strokes and you would have a hard time looking it up in the dictionary. luckily we are using the simplified characters. i cant imagine writing the complex ones. :scared:


i cant even remember how i managed to learn to read the complex characters.

that's why to not have so many problems in school, teachers are pushing learning to the parents who push it to the enrichment centres.

I dunnu if im out of topic...but i always feel teachers are very powerful people besides parents...and they have so much power with their words..to motivate or demotivate the children in their charges. sometimes a child may not be doing well..but when the teacher believes in them and encourages them...that may be all that the child needs.

My kids are finishing their ca today...and i hardly had the time to revise with them..im not expecting their results to be good..but really...is marks the only thing in life? i intend to recognise their effort and encourage them to try harder...even if they fail! ( i expect them to fail their MT)

In the beginning, it was tough because he thought I was biased. But after I guided him through to some successes, my DS realized that I was right to believe in him... and he learnt to believe in himself.

I want to make him become a confident person.He lost his confidence cos of the marks dropped.(he is not weak in Maths or in MT but not enough practise and he hated to do that).I tried very hard to prove he has the potential to do.But last year I couldn't make it.In dec holidays I made sure memorise the timetable and reading MT story books.I told him u can get band1 for all subjects in CA1.He didn't believe himself.He said how come I am in lower band2 for Maths and how come can get band1?.He felt it is a big jump.My T said can aim from lower band2 to higher band2.I told him u can aim band1 cos u r losing the marks cos of careless mistakes.Some kids they aren't understand the maths in lower band 2 then they can aim for higher band2. T told him to aim 42/50 for maths.But he got 46/50.Today he told me.I am soooooooo happy.I did it.I just wanted to I didn't expect from him this marks.I rather suspected where he would lose marks this time.But I didn't tell him.I just encouraged him.CA1 only few topics so u can make it.But MT haven't yet improved.I need to focus and work on it.His Maths T wrote careless whenever he did careless mistakes.I wonder how a T does that.They ever aware of basic psychology?

Those women who make sickening comments should be avoided. I had bad experience of talking to women who are like this...some are FTWM, the others are SAHMs.

I am more kancheong than kiasu. As SAHM, we know our kids better than anyone...exams are getting tougher every year. The standard is also brought lower too. Dont allow such people to affect you...it's not worth it.

I would appreciate and thank the teacher for her effort to indicate the mistakes as ‘careless’ on the test/practice paper so that my child is more aware of his own careless mistakes and will try his best to avoid or correct them in the next test/practice.
