Not once, but twice, when I was sitting in my primary school bus, I saw legs sticking out from under the police tent at the foot of the apartments (I remember Lake View and the other one was at Farrer). One of the fallen victims was a young girl. My friends and I were swinging on the handrail like monkeys when we saw those legs. We were so scared, we stopped playing in the bus for a few days.


Sometimes when I look up at all the new modern condos and see the open balconies I wonder whether there are kids in the units up there and fear for their safety. I used to live on a very high floor with a wonderful view but installed grills because of my ds who was learning to crawl. Whenever I read of stories about young children falling down from great height I just think it's so tragic, all the more because that could have been prevented.

yes, powerpuff, i am indeed very fortunate.
whenever i read tragic news of young children fallen fr great height,
i shiver at what i had experienced.
yes, window grills are def a must, to ward off all possible accidents.

talking abt those modern condos of full height windows, sometimes,
makes me wonder how secured are they..... :roll: :shock:

those full height windows (glass windows you are referring to) by BCA regulations must have a meter high railing either inside or outside the glass, and if it is fixed panel at the lower half, it must be made of tempered (hardened) glass

it was big fat juicy housefly. it didnt fly past me. it went straight into my eye.

when something get into the eye, the instant reaction is to close it. well, must have squashed it or whatsoever, but it sure hurts like hell. i didnt know what it was, rub it (double pain cos it was moving), finally got it out and shock to see the legs and bit body parts.

I had a similar experience when I was on holiday, it was a very windy day n suddenly...ouch...somethg when into my eye...basic reaction, close my eye....eeeek..... Its moving..... Ahhhhh.....rub it......ahhhh....greenish dischg!!!!! :yikes: What the hell was tat??!!! Then start to tear like hell with parts of the instect's body coming out..... Until today, I still dun knw wat instect was tat.....

I stayed at a friend's place for 2 weeks inbetween house. DS2 was about 3. He was playing with DS1 in a room while my friend and I were chatting in the living room. My maid was attending to something. After a while, my friend asked me if I should check on my kids. I thought they would be fine as the windows were closed. Imagine my horror when I entered the room and saw DS2 at a open window. Somehow the boys managed to climb up and open it. I quickly grabbed DS2 and closed the window. :scared:

Another similar incident happened to DS1 when we moved to a new place. DH didn't want to make window grills for the living room cos he thought that it would be ugly. On my insistence, he got a contractor to make 'half' grill, i.e. one that didn't reach to the top. Before going to bed, I told my maid to close the windows. DS1 heard me and went to close them. As he was too short (he was about 5 at that time), he climbed on a chair and his body was half way out as he tried to reach for the handle. I freaked out as I ran and grabbed him. :faint: From then on, no chairs or anything that can be climbed on is allowed near any windows. :nailbite:

I have a few but I don’t want to remember now.

Two times my dd lost in thelift and found.Second time I felt she lost I need to make police report.Then suddenly my DH saw a lady brought with her to her house.
Another one my son standing on a chair near window and window grilled open.He dropped or threw his soft toy and looking outside from a 5th story.After that whenever I opened immediately closed.Still(he is in P4) whenever I go outside I locked the backed grill.SO dangerous.

Early one morning, I made son a cup of milo. He drank half of it and left it on the table. Not wanting to waste it, I gulp down the remaining half cup. DS was about 1+ then and still in his stroller when he took a packet drink to \"inspect\" from a supermarket shelf. As I was about to take it back from him before leaving, he refused. There was a little \"tug-of-war\" (you know the sort with children approaching their terrible 2s?). Next min, when he managed to snatch it back from me, I saw him bawling with tears streaming down his eyes that were red! I was :yikes: The sharp cornered packet had injured his eye!!

I stood rooted to the spot not knowing what to do for what seemed like an eternity before I managed to regain my senses.I scooped him from the stroller and \"flew\" to the nearest clinic. But being a weekend, none was opened. I then rushed him to the A&E really shaking all over and hard that his eyes were not injured. Thank God, it was found that the blood that had streamed down actually came from his inner lower lid that was scratched. So his eye was thankfully not affected.

That served as a reminder to me thereafter (and hopefully other parents who read this) to watch out for these seemingly \"safe\" things but may pose dangers that we often overlook.

It was one of the scariest day of my life. :nailbite:

I can relate to Lilac66’s fear when something like that happens to your child. About 2 years back, I was pregnant with my second child and had to undergo a test at TMC when my mom called me to ask how things were. She let my firstborn son say hello to me. Next minute, she was screaming and screaming hysterically saying my son had fainted and could not be roused. She thought he had a heart attack.


Imagine my shock. I was shaking so hard and crying. Almost called 991, then called 999. Then told to call 995. Then I ran like mad, clutching my stomach, to the carpark, drove towards home, then changed my mind and rushed straight to KKH’S A&E where the paramedics were taking my son to. Was weeping and praying so hard for son to be ok while driving. Turned out son had a febrile fit. To this day, I will never forget those feelings of fear, desperation and utter helplessness.

And all the recent tragic cases of seemingly healthy young boys collapsing while jogging, running, playing basketball…such grief their families must be going through.

Once something flew into my mouth all the way to my throat and triggered off a coughing fit. I was coughing and tearing very badly and when I finally got it out, I realised it was one of those small fly that like to hoover over the office toilet's urinal.

Another time, was having lunch bought from the regular 'chye fan' (mixed vege rice) stall. Half way through my lunch I found this extremely thick and curly hair among my vege....
