      Hi,

My DS2 just got a chance for assessment. If pass, he can then join the K2 class next year.
      Assessment requirements:
      1. Spelling (10 words)
      2. Copy a short paragraph (test for speed, penmanship, accuracy)
      3. Attitude, attention span & Conduct (for 90 min)
Sound real strict. But will let him have a try.
Anyone can let me know, is there a lot of homework?
      Thanks.

Strange...right after I posted this, I got a call from The Write Place. (Are they reading this post?) hahaha 😉

Anyway, my DD just went for the test as well. We only received the 10 words and the para for writing the night before the test. She faired ok. Made 3 mistakes in the spelling part. Not too difficult actually...but she is careless. Btu I was quite surprised that they actually have to sit through 1.25 hr of test. Came out with more writing and copying (penmanship) at the end of the day.

Now I am told to make payment for the first term within 7 days. Shoudl I try? But I hate the timing. Its 345pm on sats. And we have been trying to keep sat pm (at least) for family time...can someone tell me if its worth it to send my gal, only K2, to this school? Will it help her in her Pri 1 work?

I send my DD1 to Mind Strecher for Eng and Maths.

She is also K2 next year.
Fees are reasonable for per mth.
I went to Mexxi before but dun really like the enviroment.
If not, you may want to try L Central at Jurong East.
              Not bad also.

                  Dear mummies/daddies,

I would appreciate if parents could share their experience on The Write Place as i am looking for a class for my K2. I’m just wondering if this school has a long waiting list, does it mean they are very good? or is it because they have small classes/one branch and hence the long waiting list? Does K2 need an assessment test to get in? How much do they charge and how do they compare against other popular enrichment centre like The Learning Lab (TLL) or The Alternative Story (TAS)?

                  Thank you in advance!!

Yes, there’s only one centre at Jurong East and their classes are small, 6 max for K2 level. The lower level (K1, K2 phonics) students will moved up to upper level (P1-6 onwards for creative writing). So, unless your kid is with them since K1, K2, chances of getting your kids in are very slim.

For K2, my #2 is doing vocab building, sentence structuring, word order, punctutation, paragraph writing etc. They also focus on penmanship. The kids have weekly homework, spelling list (to learn, writing practise), paragraph writing (Draft 1 & 2). There will be term test & progress results will be given.

My #1 was on their wait list for 2 yr+ (since K1, Term 3). I’m okay with that since my #1 is currently there. Just recently, the centre has offered #1 a place to join the existing class. However, she has to take an assessment. The assessment is to gauge/review her readiness, to see if she’s comfortable in taking up the amount of homework she’s required to do on a weekly basis should she join the existing class. Kind of prepare her I guess, which is good to me. At least she knows what is expected of her if she joins the current class.

Overall, I’m happy with them. I would say they’ve very high expectation for their teaching staffs and they have very strict teachings for their creative writing classes. This is based on the existing students’ parents I know from there. Imo, Liza and her team are quite low profile people and not the ‘aggressive’ type in promoting their centre. Those who goes to them are thru’ word-of-mouth recommendation (I’m one of them).

Fees are more expensive than TAS.
