      Kiasu101:
For those who have not had news...I guess what we wanted is CLOSURE! :celebrate:

And for those who have not received the YELLOW ENVELOPE, I suggest parents write a letter of reassurance and put it in a beautiful envelope, be it red, blue, green or even yellow, and address it to their beloved children.

Assure them that their value, esteem and worth are not tagged to a brand - GEP, concorted by some policy-makers .

Assure them that you love them all the same because they are God's gift to you.

The kid I know as a baby who got in, according to my humble opinion, is not gifted in that \"gifted sense\" (sorry for that). He is 'hot-housed\" with numerous enrichment and tuition programmes since young. (chess, swimming, piano, etc, etc....) He is out almost nightly and sometimes morning too.

Actually, I pity him - I don't think he has a childhood - swimming is not his recreation - (it's for awards and medals), piano is also not for recreation (it's for grading purposes), chess is for winning medals and you name it.....And he doesn't socialise. When we meet him in the lift, he will not make eye contact with us, despite the fact that we try to chat him up.

I'm not saying that all GEPers (actually i don't like this label) are like that - he's just one example.

So, take heart, all those who didn't receive that YELLOW thingy.... ENJOY your child and let your child ENJOY their childhood...

Sorry, my 'today' refers to Thu. I posted past midnight so it's Fri already.

There is a brochure from Tao Nan Pri about their BICEP program. It's something about Bi-cultural Chinese something something. Haven't read the package in detail because I'm very tired. Does any parents from Tao Nan know anything about this program? Is it tough, interesting? That school seem to want to recruit the GEP kids for the program. They mention assessment test is on 26DEC.

We're undecided whether to let dd join program. It seems so tough. She's happy with the ways things are now. As for enrichment, she has her challenges in arts and music which she enjoys very very much. Thank goodness we have until 16 NOV to decide...
Congrats!! PinkGoriila, go and listen to the GEP talk first before you decide. There will be open house at the GE schools too. It is quite informative. DS is in P4 GEP this year and he only has weekly Chinese tuition and violin lesson. Nothing else. His weekends are free. He's busy during term time because his school hours are long, but other than that he is quite relaxed. If your child is the independent type, then it'll be a breeze.

                Hi,

my dd's school gave the results today. She got in. Not so sure if those who don't get into GEP get paper slips but in my ds year, they do give and they mentioned that he was in the top 10% of cohort.
Congratulations pinkgorilla! Your wait is over.

If you are wavering, the talk will probably convince you to join GEP. Go with an open mind, ask lots of questions, speak to the schools which will all have representatives there, and attend the Open Houses.

School hours are very long in P4 GEP. I remember my dd staying back 4 times a week then for GEP classes and CCA. But the GEP programme is very interesting and intellectually stimulating, and the pedagogy appeals to the kids. My dd will tell you it's really fun. πŸ™‚

                        Hi puffer,

You will go through this GEP thingy again next year since you have another child who is going to P3 next year πŸ˜“
I'll be even more calm next year  I promise. The excitement may come in year 2013 for my No.3 - if there's till the GEP thingy!
