I grown up in the 70s in a kampong. I did not even know RI. All that I knew was 德明, 中正, 华中,。。。May be unimaginable to some of you, but it was true.

if my old memory serves me right, in to 70s and 80s, the \"defacto\" top 2 schools then were RI and ACS. Their academic rivalry were intense and most of the cabinet members were from these 2 schools.

Sorry, I also did not know of VS then.
However, ACS was not really 'open' to pupils from non-affiliated primary schools.

The Chinese stream then was quite separated from the English stream.

I am referring more to which were the tops schools then.

Was VS a Chinese stream school then? Maybe that,s why I have not heard of it during that period.

Now, I remember someone at the Saint Nick vs Cedar thread mentioning she never heard of VS. I thought she was just being rude and arrogant. …so…maybe it seems to be true?

Many did try to get their children into the primary schools. However, if you do not get into the primary schools, the chance is much lower even if you do well in your PSLE.

Seems interesting…quite a number of more elder English stream educated folks here.

Just another little interesting question here…anyone of you (English stream folks) heard of River Valley High school in those days?
