te="Pen88n"]Every subject is equal weightage. To score well in PSLE, one need to be a all-rounder. Every year, the various subject paper may differ in standard. In the case of "easy" paper, the subject overall marks will be higher and top T-score for that particular subject will be relatively lower (compared with the other subjects).

From my observation, in the last 2 years, the Maths and Science paper were relatively easy, so languages became the "determining factor" and those who excel in the language papers will get higher T-score. In year 2009, the Maths paper was very difficult, so those able to excel in Maths scored very well.

In conclusion, if you can "predict" the "difficult" paper for the year and excel in that paper, you can then score well. Otherwise, be a all-rounder and score in every subject to do well.[/quote]

I understand there are students who are exempted from CL in PSLE. Any idea how will their T-Score be calculated then? Won't the total T-score of 3 subjects be naturally lower than the norm who are taking 4 subjects?

From what I know, it is equal weightage too for 3 subjects. So if the child is good in the 3 subjects he/she takes and really bad at Chinese, being exempted from Chinese would be a blessing for that child. My ds1 has p6 classmates who were exempt and scored high 260+ for psle for their 3 subjects.

I wonder why only chinese can be exempted but not other subjects? :?[/quote]Those in my boy's class that were exempted had certification from psychologists for dyslexia and autism which they used to apply successfully for exemption from MOE. I know others who were exempted from having spent most of their primary schooling years overseas.

i was reading the few pages of this thread and came across this book: \"PSLE survival Guide for the family\"

Although DS is only in P4 this yr,( Opps! i am being KS again) but i felt it is always good to start learning early.
i am half-way into finishing this book and i must say it really helps me a lot in the right and less tedious method of coahing my kids in their studies. some part of this book is rather funny and i have a good laugh reading it.
i had also highlighted some important quotes for me to take note.
will get my DS to read after i am done.

i bought some PSLE pass yr paper from Popular. For English compo, student need to write at least 150 words. For Chinese compo, student need to write at least 100 words.


i wrote to chinese teacher and asked why school compo need to wrirte so long? she said in order to get high mark in compo at least two pages long.

Now i wonder PSLE English compo need to write how long to get hight mark? i asked dd go to ask the form teacher. she said her teacher got so angry to the other children who asked this questions.Can someone help me. Thanks

It is not about the length of the composition. It is about how the story is developed. I have seen very good compositions which are only 1 and a half page long. I have also seen students writing 4 - 5 pages of compositions but they are filled with grammatical and spelling errors.


I would say generally, 2 pages should be quite sufficient to develop the story well. If it is less than that, the pupils might not write enough to describe the characters, their emotion and the actions that are taking place. If the pupil’s foundation in English is strong, he/she can write more. But if the pupil is just average, I would not encourage him/her to write too much as more errors would be made and they will be penalised for that under the Language component.

If your child is able to develop the story well and use vivid phrases to describe the characters and their actions, he/she shouldn’t have any problem getting a good score.

I agree with tutor ng. It's not really about the word limit, but most good students produce compositions that are slightly longer because they are able to develop the story more thoroughly and more detailed with better descriptions.

For me i have always been slightly more long-winded, my compos can be around 3 or 4 pages for chinese or around 4-6 pages for English but again that's just me. Some people manage to write good compos in just 2 pages.
