Well, this is the case in many other countries too. Priority always to own citizens first. You've addressed this concern well. We rejoice, a great BLESSED WELCOME! Wise Minister! WISE decision made!!! :salute: :salute:

encourage more PRs to be converted into SC, boys to serve National Service next time, become great macho brave muscled men, to protect and defend the future of Singapore nation. -
YIPPEE! :rahrah:

Wow all PRs who bought within 1km of popular schools must be crying now. Didn't expect the govt to be so pro citizens suddenly. A very welcomed change

in short, fellow SG citizens (SC) compete amongst ourselves first, based on distance.
Less than 1 km enter first, followed by less than 2 km, lastly greater than 2km then can enter.
likewise, PRs has to queue behind after the very last SG citizen child has entered successfully.
PRs then compete amongst themselves, based on distance. -
I think most PRs will be push to phase 3 instead of having chance of balloting in phrase 2B/3C for popular school.

Prs will end up in neighbourhood schs. Assuming if most of them r hands on parents, they will help push up the standards of neighbourhood schs. Jmho.I think most PRs will be push to phase 3 instead of having chance of balloting in phrase 2B/3C for popular school.

Between Ngee Ann and katong convent, which is a better school?
Both have their strengths. My cousin went to KC Pri. She loved it. She came out well-mannered and better in English than when she went in.
I really like Ngee Ann. It's a happy school which is child-centred. With the new principal, processes are tightening up and more focus seems to be put on the academics while maintaining the not-so-stressful culture as compared to, ahem, the super branded school two bus stops down.
What I like about NGAPS is that it doesn't load the child with homework, so parents have time to target their kids' weaknesses. Think about it: if your kid is busy trying to finish homework everyday, he's likely not going to have time to do extra work for his Chinese, for example, or play the piano. Also, there are lots of enrichment opportunities: chess, Neuromath, dance, etc.
I will say, however, that due to space constraints, the variety of CCAs isn't very great, but can do lah.
And as with all schools, there are good teachers and... the other type. It depends on the luck of the draw, ie. heng-suay.
So, I think it is best to go with the school CULTURE you like the best. At least you know that this will not change too much. Hope this helps!

hokkiengirl, thanks for the insight. It has sort of helps to shape my decision. At the end of the day, I just want my kids to enjoy learning. Cheers.
