I guess the statement could have been phrased more precisely. In any case, it makes sense for siblings to still go to the same schools via Phase 1, wouldn't it? It would be kinda unfeeling to totally block all PR kids from the schools that their older siblings are attending right now. Think of the logistical nightmare of ferrying kids to different schools. Even if it is an 'edge', it will be one which will vanish in 6 years, after the current batch of primary one students graduates. I think we are gracious enough to look at the big picture.

As you know we do hv PRs doing very well at PSLE, say PRs get pushed to "not so popular / known" school…we can start to see a shift in the "top" schools from the traditional ones to the relatively unknown ones

Property prices near current hot schools may plunge since PRs will not be too excited to get within 1km

the standard of neighbourhood schools will soon rise, with more PRs enrolled here, where parents very \"on\" type. This is healthy!

more China PR pupils like Qiu Biqing type will emerge.
She topped Qifa primary in West Coast:-

phase 1 will have PR kids, sibling.

phase 2A don't have PR, right ?
Phase 2A also have PR if the siblings or parents had studied in the school before. And Phase 2B also can have PR. As long as no ballotting is required and PR eligible for that phase, then they will still get in.

After 6 years, it will move from Phase 1 to Phase 2A, don't think will vanish. As long as siblings studied in the school before, will be eligible. Only will be a problem if there is balloting in phase 2A.

If this really happens - 6 yrs is a long way to go - then the good thing is we'll have double the popular schools to choose from (traditional popular and 'new age' popular). πŸ˜‚

The not-so-good thing is it maybe a culture shock for some of the staff of the less-popular schools if imagine, half the student cohort is made up of foreigners.

some PRs will just quit singapore, it will be singapore's loss in the long term, esp those we need the most, in exchange for some Pri One places for citizens

:siam: :siam: πŸ¦† πŸ¦†

Those PRs who quit SG over this will not be SG's loss.... Cos' they are not real talents.
The real talented PRs will be sending their kids to international schs?
PRs and citizens alike, real talents with deep pockets parents send their kids to the Ivies and oxbridge, seen enough of those high flying SG citizens sending their smart kids to US / UK well before O level

international schools in singapore are more for those who can't make it to IP but don't want neighbourhood sec schools, where as other angmo international schools in singapore mostly just cater to their own nationalities

too much hype on international schools

Why would pr quit sg cos of p1 places if all sg schs r good schs?

just wondering already without edusave, no child bonus, no parental leave, no hdb loan, no hdb grant, pay higher lift upgrade, higher school fees. last year additional property stamp duty for second unit, now another previlege in education being removed. later dunno what else......and yet their sons still have to do NS. ofcoz they will leave. for those really talented with high pay, the can choose to go anywhere n will b accepted, leaving only those claim to b \"talented\" but half qualified PRs. it is a big lost to our country.

it is sad to see that globalisation is hitting every countries, even scandinavian countries are accepting more foreign talents to cover their economy need while we r chasing them away. those countries r giving equal status for even work permit holder's children to study for free if u worked there for more than two years.

ofcoz i will not rule out that there r many untalented talents, what singapore needs is to select those prs carefully, take only those really talented will do. its the quality n not quantity that we want.

as what uncle Lee says, those talents r crucial to our economy growth.
so by accepting only really qualify talents n limit too many of them can help solve both education n economy problems, isn't it better? it is the previous few years of government policies that created too many of these problems. uncle lee's vision is economy but the cabinet's vision is next GE. isn't obvious that the cabinet n the leader r not inline?

Really meh ? spore only atract people because of Pri registration ? They are here to make a living in this almost developed country. If there are no benefits to be gained here, you think they will come ? And pri registration is definitely a small thing. To be able to make moeny in a stabilised economy is more impt.
exactly, the parents set up biz here, make money, pay taxes, and because cannot get into their dream school, send them overseas and no need to come back, or come back as PR, never need to become citizen nor serve NS, then citizens also cry father cry mother about not serving NS..........and over time they can also move their biz and wealth of singapore. of course it is only peanuts compared with GIC money
