That particular Indian PR (they were interviewed by TST few year ago)who threatened to quit spore if their child cannot get a place at Taonan school really hilarious :rotflmao: If they can't get a job in spore, do you think they will still come here? Ultimately, their priority is still financial gains such as good paying jobs rather our primary school education.

:rahrah: This change of rule has come too late but better than not.
Yalor, who needs who more ? If they cant benefit from Spore financially , you think they will be here ?

For the past years, 50% for PV 50% for balloting .

Now ? If PR as PV, will they still entitle to enrol in p2B?
If Singaporean "A" PV staying < 2km, compare with another Singaporean"B" NON PV staying 2km, who will get the place?

I foresee more PR will do PV in order to have two chances at 2b & 2c. They will never give up, especially those who have the time & resources. If their children do well, they will request for a transfer based on results (my PR friend told me)。You don’t have to worry that all the top schools will be flooded by Sporeans only.
pr still hv priority, ie p1,p2a1, p2a2 and p2b.....over singaporeans register during the last phase...

at phase 1, all will be admitted.
at the other phases, as long as there is balloting, the new rule will kick in. but so far, have not heard of balloting at phase 2A yet.
the scene may change .... 🀷

There is no balloting at 2A. All elegible children are admitted. Balloting start only at 2B.
There is balloting at phase 2A should the applicants exceed the vacancy.

As quote from MOE \"Should the number of applications exceed the number of vacancies for Phase 2A to 2C Supplementary, places will be balloted according to the home-school distance category in the following order of priority.\"

Argh.. ya. my bad. :slapshead:
Theorectically YES, in reality NO, rite?
I meant \"number of applications never exceeded the number of vacancies for Phase 2A\" πŸ˜‚

Actually I think the word 'absolute' priority in first paragraph is pretty misleading. At first I thought all singaporeans will get the places first, then followed PRs..regardless of any phase

Still better than nothing..

It's a small absolute, within each phrase only. πŸ˜‚

I just thought of a trickle-down effect, and it's psychological. I think that with this change, in future schools will refrain from accepting PRs as PV as there is little chance of them being successful in registration. Either would PRs be tempted to apply. So that gives more opportunities for us locals to get selected. Same goes for GRL, clans etc.

The word absolute does cover the gist of the whole change. If PRs have no chance in Phase 1 by virtue of a sibling, then there is absolutely zero chance for them to get into any of the top primary schools in Singapore as long as there are more SCs than PRs vying for places in any of the subsequent Phases. Even if the PRs live within 1km, they will not get to ballot since even SCs staying beyond 2km will have priority over all PRs. If that is not absolute, I'm not sure what would be considered as absolute πŸ™‚ .

Actually, I think this change will actually intensify the balloting problem at top schools for this coming exercise, since it will drive more SCs to try for these schools thinking that they have a better chance of getting in now that PRs are \"out of the picture\".

At least there will be less finger pointing at PRs now when people lack the luck to get what they want. The debate will then shift to why alumni should be given priority in Phase 2A. :slapshead:

I don't think it is so easy to target alumni. They will also have to think about clan/churches/GRL/PV etc. WHy alumni and why not the rest of the connections? Even if they eventually shift target to alumni or clan/churches connections etc, they shld reasonably do another round of differentiation between SG and PR for those phases first otherwise, they will be huge backlash because again, pple will blame the PR for taking up the spaces in Ph 2A and 2B.

Maybe what they can do is merge all the Phse 2 together and pool all the applicants together and with the new priority given to SG, then most SG will be able to enrol first before PR in ph 2.

it is a never ending vicious cycle. even if you increase, for example, NYPS intake to 800 a year, there will still be demand to fill up and even balloting for those outside 2km...still have complaint until every pri school is rosyth or nyps or rgps or acs

the first year when RGPS moved to Hillcrest and the intake was raised to something like 300 or 330, there were no many vacancies that they even had places for supplemental phase of registration.....however it did not last long and look at it now, even got to ballot phase 2
