S'poreans to get priority for P1 places during balloting

Dino_Mummy:
So.. at the customs, did you queue at the \"Singapore Passport\" or \"All passports\"
I don't know about you guys but when i travel overseas and then the moment i landed back in Singapore airport again - i just feel a sense of happiness that i am back. I love the 'smell' of even our airport.
Only a SC will feel this way.
indeed.. the \"Welcome Home\" message is very warming too.... -

It is possible for the kid (or rather, teenager) to have dual PRC & SG citizenship. But, at P1 age, I doubt the kid will be able to get SC on his/her own merit. For the scholar case, I guess she was offered SC when she is like teenager age and have outstanding achievements to earn the \"offer\"..
So are we saying that if both parents are PRCs but are PRs in Singapore, their child (under 21) can hold both Singapore and China citizenships? And if that's so, at P1 registration, is the child considered registering under Singapore citizenship (bec he's Singaporean) or under PR (bec both parents are PR?)Funz:
For SG Citizenship at time of birth, 1 of the parent must be SC.I thought only if one parent is an SC then the kid can be SC if not will be dependants or PR
Or else, no way. -
Brainkid:
Shd be.. yes. Connections is P2B, and that is before P2C.I am blur. If a PR is a clan member or have association or is a church member, does it means it still have priority over a Singaporean who is a non-church member but stays within 1km?
Is this still called Singaporeans have absolute priority?
Shouldn't the system be opened to Singaporeans first and then a next round for the PRs, depending on how many vacancies are left over?
SC have priority if they're in the same phase. If not............. then they belong to a different queue which is further back.. Not too sure abt this.. but I guess this is the case.. -
Despite what most forummers think, this new policy is not entirely about putting Singaporeans first. It is just politics at work.
The recent election has seen the PAP votes slide down to 60%. The way I see it - the govt is pressing PRs to convert to Singaporean citizens so that they will have more supporters in 2016. (New citizens tend to vote for PAP. The opposition parties are mostly anti-foreigners and largely don’t appeal to new citizens.) Remember, PRs don’t get to vote in elections. So if you want to be really cynical, the govt is just doing this in the hope of getting more votes from new citizens for the next elections.
Why don’t they want remove the alumni/clan/church/etc phases? The people who benefit most from alumni/clan/church/etc phases are the same people who are making the policies. Do you really think they are going to shoot themselves in the foot?
About PRs threatening to leave Singapore because of all these pressure - the govt doesn’t feel threatened at all because you are not a voter. The government (and companies here) has lots of money to pay people with the right skills to work in Singapore should you leave. But no amount of money can buy votes (well, at least not that I know of in this country) and 2 years of your son’s life for NS. And that’s another reason why they are pushing PRs to convert to SC - so that there’ll be more boys liable for NS and not PRs who renounce with no consequences the moment they turn 16/17.
That said, I think this new policy is a step in the right direction. I think Singaporeans are a difficult bunch. Everything that the govt does, people also complain. All schools in Singapore are good. There’s no need to start the rat race so early on in your kids lives. -

First of all, let me clarify...THIS IS a SC against PR/FT topic.
I don't see the need to get personal with rebuttals...
Don't turn this to a SC against PR topic..
:celebrate:
I can't see how we can not make it so, when this is a discussion on a policy that clearly pits PRs/FTs' entitlements against SCs'.
I am equally offended by Mr Snaw's arrogance and sense of entitlement as those who were offended by my rebuttal, but my rebuttal was not meant to be \"personal\". Instead, it is meant to strongly REMIND the non-SCs in general (esp. those who don't \"Get it\"), that as much as we SCs welcome REAL (F)TALENTs to our motherland, they can NEVER and should NEVER expect to be granted equal entitlements/concessions in areas like primary/basic education and accommodation simply because unlike SCs, PRs/FTs were not born/raised/will raise a family/live/and die HERE. I am sure they would agree that the same holds true in reverse.
In simple unsavoury terms, FTs/PRs are transient migrants whose main focus is to enrich themselves first (as anyone would), in whichever land that offers the best opportunities/returns. All other benefits that the host (country) receives from FTs/PRs' \"contributions\" are incidental rather than primary to their decision to relocate (here). And I would expect that once the factors that were beneficial to PRs/FTs are taken away, they CAN and WILL relocate..as what Mr Snaw so clearly mentioned or even threatened, albeit mis-guidedely.
That is why Mr Snaw threatened \"I'll never go SC, why would I want to?...... If Singapore keeps forcing the issue with moves like this I'll leave\".
The SG government is FINALLY acknowledging that they had neglected its own citizens and the CONSEQUENCES have not been desirable, and hence, it looks like the main agenda going forward (at least until the next GE) is to win back the hearts of SCs...AT THE EXPENSE OF PRs/FTs.
So...get used to it..SCs, PRs and FTs alike

JoetheSC, Fully agree and support what you'd just said.

I thank you for standing up for SC. However, I am concerned when you said "The SG government is FINALLY acknowledging that they had neglected its own citizens and the CONSEQUENCES have not been desirable, and hence, it looks like the main agenda going forward (at least until the next GE) is to win back the hearts of SCs…AT THE EXPENSE OF PRs/FTs." Personally I have not yet felt the sincerity of the govt. This priority thing is long overdue; it was an oversight policy on their part, it is a reversal in light of the great uproar. This change is nothing to them, politics at play only (so that people are taken in to believe that govt is listening) when in fact it is to disguise their wrong policy. They need to take GREAT STEPS to repair the embattled faith / confidence. -
