Is it because I did parent volunteer for 1 year before my DD join P1?

Not sure, but DD mentioned that the parent volunteer form was not given to all children

            Hi Giggler1,

Yes I did attend the parent brief.
Not much detail except the below:
            1) marking scheme for each subject
            2) student banding in P3 (from 30 students per class in P2, to 40 students per class in P3)
            3) first 3 class of 120 students will be banded by english and maths

after the brief, parents were allowed to talk to form teachers/ subject teacher about any concerns

Hi mother777, I talked to both the Eng & Maths HOD on that day. The Eng HOD said that for the topical test, we can refer to the Stellar booklet to check the topics that will be tested. For the Maths HOD, he said that there’ll only be workshop on models on P4 for parents. He is very helpful and offered to guide me if I’ve any questions.

                  Hi JR,

wow you are such caring parent 🙂
already read all the notices your child brought in..
sigh!! for me I have yet to read them.. will try to do so today evening and check with my DD if she knows..

if she don't them will check with her class teacher and update you all too..

Does anyone's kid is in 2H? I hear that the 2H english teacher is quite good and gives out additional grammar notes and the class do 1 compo each week. Is this true..?

Wow the teacher sounds like gods gift to me!

My DD's class does not have anything like that.

For english, They only have Stellar notebook to work on. Class only did few compo's so far. Only 1 or 2 were corrected and returned.. Sigh..How to learn like this?

Maths is another story.. the teacher always rush through..only taught the topic after the topical test was over (can you believe this???)..Many parents complained (ayyah not me..lah.. becuase being a working parent..I am always clueless what is being taught in the class). Luckily the teacher is being changed. New teacher came in from this Monday..and just keeping my fingers crossed that she is good to the children in teaching the maths concept..

Hi JR, thanks for your posting. I checked my gal’s bag and saw the alt assessment memo. I got no clue on what’s Authenticity assessement for Math and Web Art for Chinese too. Maybe can email the Maths HOD, Mr Chong to check? I find him very helpful.

                      Hi Giggler1,

                      The PAL trip was good.
All the kids were so excited to go there.

Saw many types of mushrooms and how they are grown. The farm even fried up some mushrooms for us to taste. Kids were all eating them with so much eagerness…at home my DD will just shy away from veggies…sigh…

Kids were also able to buy shitake and other types of mushrooms from the farm. I bought a packet of fresh shitake and 1 pack of mushroom floss (vegetarian stuff…but taste very good)…

I going to try it with porridge this weekend…am sure your DD would have enjoyed the museum trip.

I got to know tht kids are actually trying to grow mushrooms as part of PAL education in school. sounds good. My dd told that she learnt that mushroom is not a plant and it is a scavenger which feeds on rotten things… This is good I feel… she is learning basics of science. Will be useful for next year… ha ha ha…

The following is some info I found out for the Chinese alternative assessment for P2:

1)"For Oral AA part 2 Role Play, the teacher will create a life scenario such as buying something from the bookstore, ask for directions, or to ask for help to look for a specific book in the library for example. Then, the teacher will assume the role of the seller or the librarian. Props such as money made of cardboard and some stationary will also be provided. There is a "task" that the pupil need to accomplish by communicating with the teacher. For example, he/she has to successfully buy 5 erasers. 2 mechanical pencils and 1 ruler, ask for the total amount and pay for it. So through this, we will assess if they pupil have the ability to express his/her needs in real life scenarios, do they know how to say pencils, erasers in mandarin etc."

According to the teacher the students will have chance to practice in class before the assesssment.

                        2) As for web art, the student will be using the paint programme to draw a picture of a house, or their dream house. After which, they will add the picture into a PowerPoint and add some description to the PowerPoint. The drawing and typing need to be finished in class. The teacher has already taught them how to use the paint programme and asked them to do a draft of what they want to type on paper first before going to the computer lab to finish the project.

For authencity assessment for Maths, the student will be tasked to do measurement in real life situation like taking the measurement of the table etc.
