the cheapest airticket is by booking direct, internet booking, with the american airlines like United or Delta that have many flights out from singapore

you do so by specifying from singapore (SIN) to Orlando (MCO) and you can choose flexible dates of travel and it will show up a table with different fares for different departure date / return date.

next, choose the fare and then it will show up the available flight options to choose, choose those that have sufficient connection time of at least 2 hours if there is a layover for immigration or change of aircraft. generally from SIN to MCO takes about 24 - 30 hours.....don;t let the duration scare you off .... think in terms of what you could see along the way experiencing different airports during the transit ...

if booking is done early, each adult ticket on United is about S$2k+/-, full mileage accrual for miles collectors, and their B777 aircrafts do have entertainment system, so not too boring

other option you can choose are like flying emirates with stop over in Dubai, or fly SQ to Houston then transfer to domestic flight (more costly, at least S$3k - 4k per pax)

Check out Legoland if you're a Lego fan, like I am. The type rides are mostly the same as in any other theme park, but I liked the Imaginarium section where they let you \"experiment\" with lego.

Thanks Laura. I am still considering if we shd go to Legoland.

How many days did you spend at Disney? Did you go to Universal? We want to do Harry potter. ๐Ÿ™‚

I bought a 5 days pass to hop in and out of all the parks.

We spent 2 days in Universal studio(1 day in island of adventure(harry porter is inside) and the other one in the Studio

Magic Kingdom is Orlando definitely is bigger, just target those rides that are not in HK.

In Orlando is called Disney World with 5 parks not Disney Land. It is the biggest and the first to set up.

Try to avoid summer vacation June/July/Aug. End Nov or first 2 weeks of Dec is better lesser crowd. It is a sch holiday yet until Christmas week.
No snow, but chilling. Especially riding in those roller coaster Incredible Hulk, Manta, etc

I am amazed that the ang-moh even 50-60 years dare to ride on those high rides. Arenโ€™t they afraid of heart attack?

Different people may have different schedules. For us, we have to down to Miami and drive up to South Carolina.

Disney World maybe is the biggest but it's not the first to be setup. The LA one at Anaheim is the very first one to be setup; opened on 18 July 1955. That's probably older than some of us here ๐Ÿ˜‚

Magic Kingdom in Orlando is HUGE, itโ€™s even bigger than the one in Anaheim though I still find the MK in Anaheim more magical. I remember we had to take either a ferry from the car park or a train across to MK in Orlando. We spent 2 days there, the 1st & last day. Yes, spend a leisure 7 - 8 days at DisneyWorld is a good idea.

The last time we went in 2007 flying direct on SQ from SG to Newark. We were able to take the exec economy then. We booked a seperate internal flight on Continental fm Newark to Orlando. This is the shortest route, around 20 hrs only. But now SQ only fly biz class on the SG to Newark sector, so we can't afford that now. :(. This year, we book direct from SQ a SG to Orlando flight on their star alliance partnership. We fly SG to Houston via Moscow and transfer to continental from Houston to Orlando. One ticket only.

From first hand experience, this single star alliance ticket is better then to just book SQ and continental separately. In 2007, on our way back, there was a snow storm in NY and our flight from Orlando to Newark was cancelled and we consequently missed our flight back to SG. In fact flights were cancelled or rescheduled for several days! Being already in mid dec, one week befor Christmas, all SQ flights were full until after Christmas. We had to upgrade ourselves to biz class to come back before Christmas. It cost us SGD3500 more per person. Travel insurance compensated only SGD1500 in total ๐Ÿ˜ž

After this experience, I am wary of booking separate tickets during winter season. Consequently, we decided to go the star alliance way. It is definitely more costly then separate booking, but any miss connection as a result of airline delay, it is the airline responsibility to get us on alternative flights back at no additional cost. We can claim compensation from the airline. We are fortunate that we have lots of Krisflyer miles and so has redeemed 5 SQ /star alliance tickets all the way to orlando for end of the yr so cost is managed.

Also, friends flew with a US airline to orlando last year, prob Delta, and said it was terrible with no personal entertainment sector. I know my kids won't be able to stand that as we always fly SQ for longhaul whenever possible, so the redemption was the only way for us.

It is very easy to do US on your own. The Internet is a true gem for the independent traveller ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh yes! Walt build Disneyland in California and even has an apartment in the theme park where he stayed. He started Magic Kingdom in Orlando but passed away before it was completed. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Oh yes, to get to Magic Kingdom in Orlando, need to take ferry, monorail or bus. Those who drive cannot park there too. The only exception is if one stays at the Contemporary Resort. It is a short 5-10 mins walk to MK. That's why we decided to stay in Contemporary again. Can't beat the convenience. Can take DD back to rest in the afternoon if she gets tired and can't keep up with the boys. Can take monorail to Epcot too. But for Hollywood studios and animal kingdom need to take the bus, but ok, quite convenient.

I also thought that Disneyland in California seems more magical. I had attributed it to the fact that it was the first Disney that I visited. But then maybe it was more...hmmmmm. The thing I like about Walt Disney World is that it doesn't seem so crowded compared to Disneyland because Disney World is so much bigger. There were not so many Asians when we were there 5 yrs ago, compared to california. Not sure if that has changed now. Less Asians is good because the factory outlets shopping is more pleasant and less people snatching up stuff like they are for free :rotflmao:
