Hi "leexue_dwx",
Is your ds representing his school in all these OM competitions?
Wish your ds all the best luck & success!!
Did you DS take the Acceleration test upon his admission ?
From P4 to P5 , training for NMOS, SMOPS, SMO Junior 1, SMO Junior 2(first two modular. Now training in school only. Yes, he will represent his school for RIPMWC and SMOPS.
How does he find RIPMWC ? Is he taking it for the 1st time ? I bet not the 1st time right ? Does the school prepare them for it ? This Friday is the test, my DS2 is taking it but it seems like no training for them at all. DS1 told me the standard is higher than SMOPS, really wonder how DS2 who in P4 now going to take it without any preparation …

It was the first time that my son took RIPMWC and his school did not prepare anything for it. But we have prepared for it for a long time. We bought the past year papers from 2008 to 2011 for my son and let him do and check solutions. Yesterday, my son managed to finish 17 questions and guess the rest 3 questions in RIPMWC 2012. I don’t mind whether he can get into top 50 or not. He tried his best already.
Today, I heard from my son that one of his friends who is a GEPER from the NO.1 top primary school told him a secret. There is a patten question , 1 box(don’t know how to draw) 2. My son also did not know the box meant what, so just anyhow guessed. But the teacher in that school told all his pupils in this competition that there was a computer printing error only in their school and the box should be printed as ‘-’. The teacher said that other school’s computer all showed ‘-’. My son said if he knew the box represented ‘-’, the question should be very easy.
So I think this competition is not fair and I don’t care the result.
My son’s school is a very normal neighbourhood school. My son took all the Maths competitions ( exclude NMOS , RIPMWC, SMOPS) from outside test centre. -

My DS2 took RIPMWC on Friday too & the school did not prepare them for it although they encourage the GEP students to take it. We didn't prepare him for it too. So when he said it's terrible, we understand as my DS1 took it in P6 before & told us it's more difficult than SMOPS. So if DS2 in P4 finds it hard, it's not surprising. My DS1 had bought 2011 NMOS Q&A from his school for DS2 to prepare, hopefully, he can do better in the coming NMOS. Will let DS2 try AMC8 this Nov ... although we never have any outside tuition for him but can get DS1 to guide him, hopefully he can make it on his own. -

So far how do you find the school work ? I understand some of the students had difficulty coping with Math .... I heard the topic on geometry is right now at the 'highest' level. There are a few that can't complete their assignments on time too. This week there is a IH test too. The Math Olympiad homework this week also very tough. Even the Math Olympiad 'pro' in my DS1's class also can't solve some of the questions .... -
Hi "dagong99",
Can you pls. send your Olympiad Math questions here
that you thought were very tough?
We have some experts here to help you.
