Thanks Pepper Spice for the info.

Seems like it is a pretty tough school to go to, especially if Chinese is not at a high level of proficiency.

By the way, what does LCD stands for?

If Chinese is not your child's forte, it may be better to go to another school. RV is an SAP school and hence the emphasis on HCL and Chinese Culture. All RV students read HCL irregardless of whether they have taken HCL in primary school. However, if your child is up to the challenge and wants to take the opportunity to brush the chinese language proficiency and appreciation for chinese culture, then RV is a very good school to go to.

Personally, I believe a strong chinese language proficiency and understanding of chinese values and culture is very important for the younger generation. China's economy is booming and is going to continue booming for years to come. There are lots of opportunities awaiting our kids when they come into the work force.

        LCD = Leadership & Character Development πŸ˜„

          Belle2011:
Collected my new iPad but without protective cover and stylus.

the package price is inclusive of both protective cover and stylus. my child's FT has mentioned the casing for the new ipad is different from ipad 2. so the vendor is sourcing for suitable casing for the new ipad and deliver together with the stylus at a later date.

          so no worries πŸ˜„

            Hi rosecy,

I totally agree with you. Although my kid is taking higher Chinese currently, he does hardly anything outside curriculum time.

We put him in higher Chinese because we want to challenge him a little and hopefully, be sufficiently proficient in the language. But if he struggles in secondary school, this may affect his morale and may also be detrimental to his our studies if he spends too much time to do catch-up.

Really have to make a judgement and see what is best for him.

By the way, anyone knows any SAP schools that offer both higher and normal Chinese?

Nan Hua (non-IP) and Catholic High / St Nicholas (next year IP) offer both higher and normal Chinese.
I think Hwa Chong also has some students taking \"O\" level normal Chinese in Sec 3 (subject to verification).

There is some advantages taking HCL.

If in 'O' Level school, a pass will get 2 bonus points off L1R5 for entry to JC.

In addition, the biggest bonus to do well in HCL is that the students need not study GCE 'A' Level H1 Chinese in JC. Therefore, the time saved from offering H1 Chinese can be put to good use in their weaker 'A' Level subjects.

Parents who missed the Meet Parents Session Principal’s Briefing may want to know that our kids are in good hands.

RV is officially ranked 4th among the JC/IP schools for the 2011 A Level. Ranking is based on University Admission Score. The cohort has also performed above expectation (projection based on PSLE score) in the 3 key indicators (UAS, H2 MSG, % GP pass). UAS and H2 MSG also improve compared to 2010 cohort.

Number of confirmed PSC Scholarship awardees to date has increased 4 fold over 2010 cohort (2) and counting.

I assume RV is now just behind RJC, HCI, VJC based on data collated by parents earlier. The top 3 were not mentioned during the briefing.

Very happy to know that RV has done so well despite having the lowest PSLE intake among the top JC/IP schools.

Just wanted to add one more thing (but I hope I am not accused of \"advertising\" for the school). Principal also mentioned during talk (the one on 24 March) that he had been P in a few schools and he considered students in RV the most well-mannered ones. So generally speaking, can also say that our kids are in good hands and under good influence.

Maris Stella High offers a choice of HCL and Normal Chinese.
