3 Year Old Niece In ICU (Hospitalised)

Great news indeed WeiHan....
Wishing her a speedy recovery.. .. :rahrah: -

So happy to hear that.Since I started the thread, I'll give a brief account of the progress.
My niece condition is improving judging from the time that she is awake and the objective parameters that are measured from the blood tests.
Basically, all the major parameters indicating liver injury have started to come down (meaning improving liver condition). These parameters are still high by normal standard but the start of a reduction and her length of awake time is unmistaken sign that her liver is restoring its health.
We are all relief.

Definitely a great relief to hear! :rahrah: -
The doctor maybe very close to finding the cause of her liver problem.
We have to wait till tomorrow for the confirmation test.
My niece is both lucky and unlucky. I’ll update all of you tomorrow. -
No. The doctors cannot find the cause of the acute liver failure and my niece is still in ICU.
Although she is conscious, the blood tests suggest that her liver is deteriorating.
They are prepared for the worst and that is a liver transplant.
My sister has got second opinion from Nancy Tan from Gleneagle and she supports the go ahead with liver transplant. the transplant won’t be done in KKH but at NUH where there is an experienced team. -
Stay strong.. ..
:xedfingers: -
We keep yr niece n family in our prayer

WeiHan, wishing your niece a speedy recovery.

Hi WeiHan,
Hope your niece’s condition is stable. I’ve checked with my friend who’s a doctor. She says that the transplant is a good option to take. As your niece is very young, she will need only a small portion of liver from one of her parents and her liver will be able to grow again. It’s a major op and there are a number of risks, but some patients do very well.
As for the choice of surgeon, if you need more opinions, you can try looking for Dr KC Tan. He did the liver transplant for Andrea De Cruz in 2002.
The NUH transplant team is good as well and is led by Prof Prabha. -
Hi Weihan,
It's indeed a tough period for your family. But stay strong and positive knowing that there are alot of parents here in KSP that will keep in in prayers. We strongly believe things will be fine.
