      Hi kiasu2010,

Yr post is enlightening. I do agree that sometimes such big MNC really need talents from overseas as sporeans are not good or humble enough to take the positions. And the part on jurong, I actually heard similar complaints... U are right, sporean don't like to work in those areas, ESP jurong island. Hee...too spoilt.

But seems that this trying to get low cost, younger foreign executive trend is affecting even small company. The reasons for small company is obvious - cost cutting!

For my case, my co has less than 50 employees but the net profit we generate each year is more than 10million, which I feel is quite decent for a small company like ours. Everyone more in alot of effort, alot of OT, unpaid some more.
It's a pure local company, with no overseas venture, no need for niche special skills. So we don't need foreign people actually.
And I am in the accounting dept. last time I thought accounting is the safest, coz IT, engineering is easily replaced by Foreigners. But who knows now even accounting is taken over, they don't care if these foreigners know Singapore accounting standards, GST, Singapore taxation etc...
They just wanna employ someone cheaper.... My pay is 4.4, the Thai gal is 3.5.
True...she is much cheaper, but I still have to teach her. And I know that once I pass everything over, they will just find some excuse to get rid of me. There are already 2 colleagues being treated like that this year. And they are compensated with 3 mths pay, told to leave immediate coz \"performance not up to standard\", they don't term it as retrenchment since retrenchment may need to pay more. Coz the 2 person who were told to leave, they work quite long here. Somemore there is replacement for them so it's not considered \"retrenchment\".
      Smart rite?

If I am replace by some spore grad, I still gan yuan. To be replaced by a grad from Thai uni, Haiz... My HR told me during the recruitment there is alot of local NTU, SIM, SMU grad applying. Maybe becoz of our working location at scotts orchard area, it's quite enticing for many. Then who knows they choose a Thai foreigners who hasn't even got PR, so cpf also no need to pay. This is a really wrong mentality.
But what to do, govt approve her work permit immediately.

Anyway, on a brighter side, Its a good excuse to be a stay at home mum. Tell my hubby that no one wanna employ me Liao, he gotto take me in.

One school that I am aware of reduced their PV intake by half for next year's registration - from 30 to 15 PVs.

It's good that schools reduce PV if they know that the 2B phrase vacancies are limited. To me, I rather they tell me straight that I don't have a chance to PV, no chance in 2B.
Imagine the disappointment to be balloted out of 2B, the volunteering hours put in is one thing, the high hope pinned and later crashed.... Cannot imagine.

Btw, anyone watch the 9pm TCS show - pillow talk?
I feel like I am like that michelle chia.. Hahaa...
My hubby keep teasing me...Somemore the lady is an accountant, like me...
Bad image leh, like all accountant very kiasu...

And her daughter actually got in thru waiting list via connections?
Anyone know if this is real scenario or fiction?
Can really get in via waiting list with connections?

Yes , of course, because the principal is given a lot of authority to decide who to let in.

My friend kept pestering/visited the principal of a primary school many years ago, to ask to become a PV , but was rejected. Then in the end, found out that their friend knew the principal, and the end result ... no need to spell out lah.

Not only that. There have been stories about foreigner in some key position discriminating against SC and choosing their own \"kind\" for vacancies.

What has to govt do to prevent such things from happening? What can they do?

All these connection, favoritism, donations etc definitely exist.

There are difficulties flushing it out.

We hear of so and so got in because of the above. But we have no proof.

Also, how many would make a complaint against their relatives and friends?

znzyzyzx, your friend's friend must be an influential person to make that Principal turn the situation around, let yr friend in eventually. I suppose \"Who you know in life\" sometimes is important, during Transfer case. Nobody question Principal why you take this child in, and not another child, as P has the authority to overide final decision.

Talking about foreigners trying to get PR status in SG and getting a job in SG. Not too long ago I was guilty of trying to save cost by employing a fresh grad from across the Causeway. I was very keen on one candidate but somehow during the interview process, she got a bit defensive asking us how much would we pay a local poly, SIM, NTU graduate? Her starting pay should be on par and not less than that!

Seriously, her paper qualification although seems quite good, was not from those typical overseas U that I know. Furthermore, her English was not on par with our local grads. Now if not for the fact that I am trying to save some cost, why would I consider her for the job? She complain most local cos. trying to "eat" her hence a bit defensive. Too bad she argued with our HR over the classification of work permit and HR was so pissed told me to give her up.

BTW, thought this is a P1 registration thread, now turned out to be PR employment thread. Ke…ke…ke…

*flame shield on* (my thick skin.. hope it offers enough protection 😉 )

If there is to be any priority of one SC over another SC.. I would suggest the criteria being whether 1 of the parent served NS.

So, effectively, there is 2 groups of SC Kids.

                      A) (examples)
                      1. MIS SC Father, served NS.
                      2. New citizen SC Father, served NS.

                      B) (examples)
                      1. New Citizen, SC Mother, Father not SC.
                      2. New Citizen, SC Father, No serve NS
                      3. MIS SC Mother, Father not SC
                      4. MIS SC Mother, Father SC, but nvr serve NS

For this scheme, A will have absolute priority over B, in RECOGNITION of their contribution towards the defence of sovereignty on this little red dot we called our HOME.

ok.. I've said my piece.. you may start to flame if you like 😉

We welcome new citizens.. But we also appreciate the part play by male citizens who give their precious 2 years, and being operationally ready for many years after, in the protection of our HOME.
why need to group the SC kids into 2?
just let all the new citizens do the NS before granted citizenship. Perhaps give them some discount, 1 year or 1.5 yr NS?

With 2C being the hottest contested phase, MOE feel that the new ruling (immediate effect) will make SCs happy, but will definitely make PRs unhappy bcos they are at a loss as it is too sudden. Perhaps some leeway should be given to PRs who are doing PVs.

why the PR feel unhappy? According to what i know about China Primary Schools:

                        1) in a captial city of a first tier coastal province, the average class size of a very top primary school (名校) is 50 to 60 for each level.
                        2) each week, the duration for Eng lesson is less than 2 hours.

                        3) there is no GEP streaming at end of P3.

what is our Primary School's average class size?
And each week, how many hours of lessons for 2nd language are given to the pupils?
GEP is open to all PR, right?

We might not agree that \"Every Primary School is same good\" but any SG primary school is far much better than any primary sch in China. At least, CHina PR should be 知足.
