Hi TwaTau, can I check with you. Is there any orientation for GEP student who goes in to HP? & when will we know that which school he'll be posted to? Will be going for holiday in early Dec.. not sure if it'll clash with the orientation if there's any. Not sure if i'll get chance to check with the HP's rep. Am afraid might be swamp with parents...

You will have time to talk to the schools, if you skip the refreshment, ๐Ÿ˜‰ Can't remember exactly when we get the posting, but I am quite sure there is a 100% chance of getting into HPPS, unless there is a sudden interest of HPPS this year. You might want to check with the HPPS booth on the briefing day about the orientation as well, memory not so good liao! In case it crash with your vacation, you can request at the briefing to do a school visit, and I remember the visit to the school was quite close to the briefing. If you miss the orientation, at least your child can see the school first.

Actually, a lot of non-GEP schools will round up those who passed the 1st selection test but didn't make the 2nd selection and put them in a special class (that mirrors GEP). For example, ACS Jr has the Thoburn class, MGS has the Sophia Blackmore class and many other schools also have something similar.

Now I know why some parents prefer to send their child to 'branded' school... cause at least they have 'extra' included for the child..

Thks. I intend to go there earlier. May not want to finish the whole seminar which might end at 9 plus. My main purpose going this evening is to talk to HP rep & know more about what they're doing (actually have gotten quite a handful info from you). HP is my only choice since I'm staying in the West & I don't want SAP school.

Not really branded even neighbourhood schools have. My Son's school principal said if the kids want to stay back (not selecting GEP) they will have special arrangements to help .. Not sure what . but ofcourse SAP schools always top in such arrangements because ofthe funding and assitance they get from MOE (my friend told me this and she is eyeing for NYPS)

              Neko:
Wrt RGPS, can anyone enlighten me :

              1. Is GEP in the morning session ? What are the school hrs ?
              2. How often do GEPers @ RGPS have to stay back after school?
              3. Is homework completed mostly in school or at home ?

              Thanks!

I have been very stressed over GEP. dd was very sure she did not want to take it up until she knew she got in. Now she is fixated on going to RGPS.

We stay in Woodlands (proximity is defintely not a gd reason but then again, none of the GEP schs are near my place), she's from a mixed school (can't use Girls' sch as a reason). I do not know what other reasons to give.

Public transport wise, there is a bus that (961) goes to RGPS from WDL bus interchange but i think the journey is very far ... 41 bus stops. (Nanyang 45 bus stops, Nanhua i thk 30+ bus stops, the rest of the schools no direct bus from WDL). woodlands is so ulu.

My mum is dead against dd joining GEP. I explained to her that it is dd's decision (tho not her ultimate, final decision yet), aft she has been told the pros/cons and that I also pref dd to stay put in current sch (I love stauts quo, hate changes). But my mum says it's a terrible mistake to let a 'small child, who doesn't know anythg' make the decision. she say 'u all adults are very irresponsible to want to make her go thru a stressful childhood and shd help her decide to reject GEP'.

now my mum is giving me a hard time. ๐Ÿ˜ข

and no, she is not taking care of dd. I am.
              Hi Neko,

              1. Yes, GEP classes are in the morning session. In fact all of P3-6 (including mainstream) is in morning session. School ends at 1pm everyday except on Wed when it ends at 12.30pm.

              2. GEP classes stay back twice a week in P4 - once for HCL, another for Research Skills and Computer Skills. They also stay back once a week for CCA.

              3. Group project work is completed mostly during school hours. Yes, there is homework, but very manageable. If I remember correctly, my dd only had some Math and Chinese homework on some days. Hardly any Science or English homework. So there are days she didn't have any homework. Of course, you have individual projects like Social Studies, Book Reviews, Science Projects etc which are given to the girls months in advance and it's up to the child to plan their schedule to complete the task by the deadline. Again, very manageable.

I have to log off now but let me know if you have more questions. Will address them later.

Hi, out of curiosity, have you spoken to the principal? Or did the principal call up parents to \"encourage\" the student to stay? :?

Hi, could someone shed light on NYPS? Thanks a million.

1)How many times must they stay back per week?

2)Do they have a lot of homework to bring home?

3)Any parking available near the school for parents who are driving? Iโ€™m very lousy with parking, so am very frigtened of parking by small lanes which are difficult to manoeuvre. :!:

                  4)Howโ€™s the traffic condition there?

                    3) why do u need to park? It's usually just drop and drive off. Believe NY need to go into the lanes of the private estate. Remember they have 'school zone' restriction for vehicle in that vincinity. Not sure what is the exact nature of the restriction and timing.

                    4) Bt Timah/Dunearn...well, many schools and many parents who send their kids to school. Think 6.45 to 7.15 very congested!

                      Any news from kiasimom?

Phew, finally got the time to log in and catch up with you guys.
                      Hi KSP, hi vlim.
Nope, DS didn't get selected, he broke down in tears 3 times after he knew he wasn\"t selected. Spent some time consoling him and telling him all is not lost yet. It might be a blessing in disguise as he has more time for revision till PSLE.

I am overwhelmed by all the responses here and it is 108 pages!!!

                      WOW!!!
Really sorry , but been busy doing volunteering work and can just managed to squeeze some time in here.

For those parents whose kids are selected, congratulations!
For those parents whose kids are not selected, don't be disappointed, look on the bright side, at least your kid can have more time to prepare till PSLE.

Whether in GEP or not, our darlings are uniques to us.

                      Cheers!!
