this discussion should further split into

      1. work for others
      2. work for yourself (your own business/company)

working for others will be a bit difficult, like some already mentioned once over 40 is considered ‘old’ in the labour market… the sense of job security will be shaken especially when one reports to someone younger… i really don’t mind working like part-time if someone is willing to employ me at my old age rather than staying at home, thinking and waiting for the last day … but what kind of jobs will the employer let a 75yo do? besides driving taxi…

if it is my own company/business then i will work until my last day…

Now they can drive till 75 years old.

        http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1194921/1/.html

SINGAPORE: Taxi drivers will be able to drive their taxis till they are 75 years old when the revised age limit takes effect from June 1, 2012.

This was announced by the Land Transport Authority on Friday after a review of the current age limit, following feedback from the National Taxi Association and taxi drivers.

With the raised age limit, taxi drivers who intend to extend their vocational licenses after the age of 73 will be required to pass a detailed assessment annually or at a shorter interval as deemed necessary by the doctor or occupational therapist.

Taxi drivers who pass will have their vocational licence renewed yearly until they are 75.

Currently, all taxi drivers who intend to extend their vocational licences after the age of 70 are required to pass a detailed assessment.

The assessment comprises a medical examination, an occupational-therapist evaluation and an on-road driving test with an occupational therapist and a qualified driving instructor present.

1,000 taxi drivers, who are aged between 70 and 72, will be the first to benefit from this new policy, Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo said.

Another 15,000 in their sixties will also benefit from the change in the decade ahead.

\"In deciding whether to raise the age limit further, one important consideration is safety,\" Mrs Teo said. \"Not just for the passengers and other road users, but importantly for drivers themselves.\"

\"So what we find here today is that there is a system in place for testing the fitness of the taxi drivers, because physical fitness as well as mental fitness is important to their ability to continue driving safely on the roads,\" she added.

\"The system is working well and this gives us the confidence to raise the taxi drivers age limit further from 73 to 75.\"

My FIL is turning 80 soon and still happily working but as it is his own business, it is on his own terms and at his own pace. Think that makes a lot of difference.

Don't say that leh, it seems that life expectancy has increased by 3 years and this is causing a drag on govt expenditure!
Maybe you can live long long but no need to work until 75, got kids to support you! 🙂
