I agree that they have grown up and they have to learn to be independent. However, this event supposed to be a compulsory event & we, parents r totally unawared of the last- minute changes. From our perceptive, the school should have the responsibilty to make sure that they sent the boys back to school, if not we should be notified. The truth is no one knows what will happen. What if there's a case of mishap that happen to your son? Will u still be proud of him coming back by himself? Do u think it will be much too late to point finger at either sides? Do u think the school will be responsible? Dun let it happen as 'Prevention is better than cure'. Address to the problem now, dun procrastinate !!
Lion King n needlotsofhelp, I understand yr worry ,as I have gone thru d same situation when DS was in lower sec but I personally think this is part n parcel of secondary sch life. I can safely said RI , Cedar , Spore Sport Sch and those attended the event also met with d same problems.this is d 1st time in history this events was delayed till late evening caused by d bad weather as reported by ST, so what do you expect from the organizer ? We r talking about coordinating the whole sec one boys,participants, teachers n bus drivers .
And as more events will follow so are you going to stop yr boy from joining ? All these events are usually plan by the CCA excos and seniors , PLS give them some credit ! They have to put in so much time n effort on top of their sch work n projects and EXAMS. Pls remember yr DS will be senior too n might be one to plan n organize so if something similar happen , how would u feel when other parents do not appreciate or give support to him or his group but keep putting them down? In yr work have u not have any bad experience? Ask yr boys don they feel proud for their school to sweep all the title gold n overall champion ?
And last thing if HCI is the v first choice both of you have chosen for yr boys don't you think you should give the school more support rather than condemning it? Lion King like you posted \"prevention is better than cure\" then you should not worry yr boy being \"hated\" n dont procrastinate about giving constructive feedback . There is always two side of the story so give the sch a chance to answer yr feedback .

I'm quite disappointed with the management. -

Hi, just wanted to clarify a few stuff about Track and Field Meet.
There was rain from about 3:30 to 5:30, and the officials at the Meet had no choice but to postpone the event. The school, forseeing that buses would come earlier than the event would end, quickly arranged for buses to come and different timeslots
The councillors and the school arranged for buses to come promtly at 6:30pm, 7:30pm, and 10:30pm for councillors. Students were given a choice when they wanted to stay until. Some students had informed their parents to pick them up at a certain time, and told the teacher about it, who promptly released them from the meet. Most students, however, left at 6:30pm.
However, the bus did not arrive at 6:30pm, even though it was arranged beforehand. Thus, the councillors and the teacher-in-charge reacted swiftly, calling the bus agency, and engaging the students. Students were also given a choice, whether to go home on their own, to get parents to fetch them, or to wait for the bus. Many students, however, did not want to wait, and thus decided to go home themselves.
These students were given directions, and were brought to the bus stop. They were told to take the bus 307 to the interchange, after which they can take either 67 back to school, or take a bus/MRT to their own homes. I find it absurd that students can lose their way with such clear directions.
It is understandable that you will be worried for your children; what if my DS gets sick because it was raining previously? What if he gets robbed in the daylight at a highly populated place? What if he gets lost, even though there are passers-by and students from other school aplenty? What if he falls down and nobody seems him, despite being in Choa Chu Kang, one of the most populated districts in the west?
These worries are definitely justifiable, but you cannot blame it on the school. If need be, the blame has to be pushed to either your DS, for wanting to go home himself, or the weather, for causing the event to be pushed later.
Furthermore, talk about homework and tests are certainly not justifiable. Councillors stayed back in the stadium till extremely late times, and some reached home past midnight. Furthermore, many of the councillors have tests, and much more homework, being at higher secondary levels.
HCI is just about grades. Take a look at HCI's latest President Scholars - their grades weren't the best, but they had displayed a beautiful sense of passion for the community, and portrayed a certain independence, which HCI has groomed in them. It is these very events, these very hiccups, which shape the character of your children.
I understand that perhaps you want HCI to inform you that they will release the students late. This is something that indeed can be improved on; they could have sent such a message, despite it being a huge logistical nightmare (taking into account that this year has marked the greatest amount of students ever brought into the stadium by HCI). However, the students were not actually released late; they could have left if they had valid reasons, such as if their parents were waiting for them.
If you have further feedback, and if you are too afraid to complain to teachers, you may always inform the school council. You can ask your DS for contacts of councillors.
My opinion of this matter I commend HCI's council and teachers for reacting so impressively, even though there is still room for improvement. I also would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to HCI for once again attaining the triple champs, dominating the A div, B div and C div titles.
