probably organised swimming lessons by instructors who rent from the school, just like ACS Barker swimming pool used by commercial swimming school to conduct lessons

          firefly38:
Did any parents attend the Parent-Teacher Meeting held last Friday? I did not attend, as DS said I did not need to meet any of his teachers. I did not know that I could 'apply' to see the teachers, even if they did not need to see me.

I was also not aware that there was a talk on Mother Tongue, Computer Studies and other academic issues that evening, as DS did not show me the letter until today! Hope I did not miss out on anything important.. Sigh!
          Hi firefly,

I was there for the briefing. Nothing much, very general stuff. Respective ICs talk about computer studies n computer elective, then the aesthetics which includes design, music and art, followed by mother tongue briefing. I am sure they will put up e slides on Stamford thus I did not take much notes. Log in to check.

The only urgent one now which u may wanna know is email writing for myct for paper 1. I m not v sure on that cos till now tr has not covered that in class. Also tr still teaching 第三课 for HCL but e boys will be tested till e end of 1A textbook. Is your DS class e same?

            Thanks Paddy, for the update...

Will check with DS when he comes home this evening, after his Japanese class.

Was tidying up DS' table just now, and saw a ''time-table'' which DS drew up for his revision for the coming Exam. Noticed DS did not include HCL in his revision plan. DS once told me ''HCL Exam is 30% from 'inside-book' (ke-nei) and 70% from 'outside-book' (ke-wai), so studying does not guarantee good grades''. Guess that could be the reason why DS chooses to spend his time revising for other subjects, instead of HCL?

                no need to teach

just ask him to produce a revision timetable, and he will do it

Also, for parents of year 1 HCL, don’t forget to ask your ds to learn the list of ‘guan yong yu’ and ‘chen yu’ no. 1 to 20, i think. This is included as ‘ke nei’ on top of the text book 1A. Was told by teacher that my ds must score in the 30% ke nei becoz that part can prepare one. For ke wai…erm…will have to ask ds to read as widely as possible. He is trying now (under my insistence) to listen to channel 8 news (good thing is there’s chinese subtitles) - he listens as he sight reads the words on the screen.

BTW, yay yay! ds got 12/20 for the shi han test. Even though it’s just 2 marks above the passing - it’s a big deal for my ds. Oh and the teacher said though the exam format for MYCT is email (you jian) instead of shi han, the content is very much the same and format is simpler too.

Thanks VSK, for your reminder and update... And Congrats to your DS for doing well in the Shi-han Test!

Finally managed to log into Stamford to view DS' test results (kept getting my password wrong, initially). DS got 4 marks for Math & Science, 2+ marks for HCL & History, and 3+ marks for the rest.

May I ask what's the total marks for each subject? Is it 5 or 6 or 10 marks? Is DS' performance considered OK? Sorry for asking so many questions, as I did not attend the Parent-Teacher Meeting. Thanks!

Gpa 4.0 = max gpa for each subject. Raw score 80 to 100.

                      3.6 - 70 - 80 marks
                      3.2 - 65-70
                      2.8 - 60 - 65
                      2.4 - 55 - 60
                      2.0 - 50 - 55
