Hi, I am a newbie to this forum. After getting tons of useful informations from this forum, I thought of contributing to the forum by sharing my emotional roller coaster ride over the last 3 weeks to the parents who are still waiting for their DS/DD appeal result.

My DD did not make it to her 1st choice. DD, DW and myself were sadden by the result. As DD missed the COP by 1 point, we decided to appeal to her 1st choice. We waited…and waited…painfully…almost calling the school daily, only to be told that they might have good news for us on the following day. Not receiving any call from the school, we finally made another call to the school on the last day of the appeal exercise. We were told there the exercise had cut and there is no more vacancy left.
Another heartbreaking rejection…we told DD not to dwell on the two rejections and thrive to do well in the school she was posted to.
But we received a call saying that she had been accepted to her 1st choice as there are new vacancies in the school after some other students left the school during the 2nd week of Jan. As parents, we felt that DD 1st choice will enable her to better work on her weaknesses. But DD was beginning to have second thought about going to her 1st choice as she was making new friends and feeling comfort with her posted school. She was unable to decide on the two schools. In the end, DW and myself decided to go ahead with the transfer. Becos of the transfer, she missed the orientation camp for both schools.
Thinking that all is well, then came the comparison as DD begin adapting to two different schools in the span of 2 weeks. She would complaint abt how the students in her posted school were friendlier, the teachers are nicer and the much higher level of academic stress she has to go in her new school. Seeing what our 12 yo DD had to go through emotionally, DW and myself started doubting the wisdom of our decision. Now we spend a lot of time counselling DD so that she can move on and accomplished what we hope to see by sending her to her 1st choice.
Being a parent nowadays is really stressful. There will be times we start doubting ourselves on whether are we doing the right thing. But I am glad that I am able to meet other parents who are in the same situation as myself and are still striving to do their very best as parents in the KSP forum. It is always comforting to know that you are not alone in this struggle.
To parents, like Rejoicemom who are still waiting for their DS/DD appeal result, ALL the BEST…!!!
        Thank you, KSP!!!

Dear All: if you take up a DSA offer, let’s say your second best choice, but after PSLE, your score will secure your first choice school, will MOE allow you appeal? I was told MOE will no longer entertain such appeal? Just want to verify. Thanks

As of last year, MOE does not allow for appeal after accepting DSA offer. All sec schools have informed those with confirmed DSA offer that they are not allowed to appeal and have not accepted their appeal application. So, please consider very carefully if your DSA offer is not your 1st choice. By then, you have completed your PSLE paper, and should have the confidence to decide if you think you can make it to your 1st choice by your own merit!

Thanks for reply. When will we have to exercise DSA offer option? I thought it is before PSLE?

It's after PSLE. So you'll have an idea on how well you performed at PSLE and make your decision about whether you still want to accept the DSA offer from the school.

                      Hi jtoh and ruohoo97,

I think we have to exercise the option to select which DSA school before the release of PSLE results. There is a Exercise School Preference Stage, end of October before the PSLE results, where we have to submit our selections.

Can check it out at this website :
                      http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/dsa-sec/flowchart/

                      Regards.

                        Hello,

Just to add ... we exercise our selections end Oct but the posting result (to tell us which DSA offer is allocated) will be out only on results day. (based on what I understood from the flowchart) - Pls correct my understandings if I am wrong, cos my dd is also intending to DSA .... so I am also trying to gather info.

                        Regards. 😄
