My DS e-learning is on 3rd week of May, they will have 4 days over the weekend to complete everything. For now, it is still normal cirriculum hours with lots of practice for Maths.

My dd SA1 starts on last wk of April and end 1st wk of May ... seem like exam is moving forward and getting earlier. It's like 6 wk after 2nd term starts ... wonder why the need to be so early .....


Before they even learn its testing time again .... wonder school is to teach or to test nowsaday. :siao:

Son's oral 25/26 April...Eng and CL compo 1st week May...like bullet train followed by Eng paper 2. Last paper on 10 may.
How much time is spent teaching? It seemed like Mar hol just finished. Even the PSLE is early...sep 27.

DD finished SA1 composition two days ago (Monday). Last week was Listening Comprehension. Next week will be Oral. Followed by main papers from 3 May to 10 May.

Seems like my ds & dd sch start & end latest – oral, LC & compo 2-4 May. Written papers 10-15 May.

When DS' results dropped in P5, last year, I did not take it easy. We worked very hard to bridge the gap because we were heartened by the fact that we still had time to work hard.


The result of the very intensive hard work was that by end-February, we had completed the PSLE syllabus. I don't regret doing that because it really helps stress levels this year from now until PSLE. Now, it is a question of consistent practice and refinement. It's better to panic early than late... IMHO.

Chenonceau, your approach is what I encourage too.
During P5 year end school holidays, most students will start to slack. And this breaks the rhythm they've built in P5 year.

Also, most schools teach the toughest topics in P6 (especially for Maths) very late. By then, there isn't enough time for the kids to get enough practise and exposure to question types.

Parents with P5 kiddos, now's the time to start their engine and keep it going. Don't allow them to slack. If they have any problems, address it now before it's too late.

Totally agree on above.
For P5 maths, make sure the concepts of ratio, percentage, fraction are understood and practised well. In P6, the problems will be more complex and additional topics of composite figures and speed to master.

When they teach, it is easy : Speed=distance/time, but the questions are complex and needs a lot of practise and exposure.

P5 is a critical year. Last year's cohort's moms passed the advice to us so you all pass down to next generation too.

Was surprised that for the last question (5 mark) - unless the child gets the correct answer, no method marks will be given if the child chooses the method other than the one taught by school? I thought PSLE award method marks, no matter which method right? Not sure if dd heard wrongly. Think I’ll have a word with the math teacher.

In primary school, the answer itself is worth two marks. so once the answer is wrong, the Max mark for a wrong answer is only three and if the child's presentation is so bad with no statement and scribble just numbers, the trs may not want to give any method mark.
