Alright… the full identity of this student is out. I know it is too late and I know it is useless, but I want to write this post anyway. Prostitution is a sin. Engaging prostitutes is a sin. But what gives us the right to mete out such harsh public punishment to a 17 year old as if WE have never sinned.
Here is a story of 2 girls.
Little H grew up in a home where both her parents were lawyers. The family lived from hand to mouth… never able to put aside money… never able to save up enough to move out of their flat. Neither did they know the wisdom of financial self-restraint. For Little B, Salvatore Ferragamo was a vision that floated past on the arms of kids like Little H, who carried theirs without thinking. In school, Little B received no sense of self-worth. She did poorly in every subject. As such, Teachers either thought she didn’t exist, or they didn’t like her. She ended up in ITE and as far as she could see, she was never going to make much more money than her parents. Her parents worked hard to make ends meet and she did not have the benefit of grandparents’ attention. In fact, Little B’s own mother had given birth to her when she was only 17… and had even forgotten to sign her up for preschool.
Both Little H and Little B grew up into attractive young ladies. The one time a middle-aged coworker at one of her internships cracked a dirty joke and made her cry, Little H’s mother threatened a lawsuit for sexual harassment. Little H learnt to freeze men with a stare.

Exactly. One should not be too judgemental, but likewise, one should not be blind to the current environment. Are some girls/women trapped in the sex trade on the basis of poor home environment or poverty? Undoubtedly.
