All About Teaching Values
-
a)
if your child's current pre-school (kindergarten / child care centre) does not teach \"Di Zi Gui\" important Chinese moral character values from a very young tender age, yet you would love your child to learn them, pls be informed that come nearer this year end around November 2012, there are RC (Residential Committees) start conducting \"Di Zi Gui\" for K1 / K2 kids, in small groups.
for more info, kindly contact RC lao shi at tel: 6554-4600
The Chinese teacher will not just ask your child memorize \"Di Zi Gui\", but also explain the meaning behind it. The admin girl will ask you which area you stay in, then recommend the nearest RC closest your home.
Character moulding / building crucial from young. No point having a child academically brillant, but rotten character. One who shouts at parents, rude, shows no respect at home, talk back to parents, argue back or challenge parents authority at home, remain ungrateful. Or even worse, dump parents into old folks home, never visit them, treating
their old parents like some kind of trash bag. Not all kindergarten and childcare centres in Singapore teach \"Di Zi Gui\".
once Primary 1 starts, the heavy academic rigour kicks in. You won't have time. Character moulding and foundation building is crucial for young kids, esp. the initial first 6 years from birth.
when go Primary 1, some schools teach \"Di Zi Gui\". But not all schools. Nowadays, many youth are self centred. Tendency to adopt \"is ME, ME, ME\" selfish attitude.

b)
if you do NOT wish to go RC if the timing doesn't fit well, another route is \"Guang Ming Shan, ground floor Room number 8\" in Bishan.
This programme has to be parents accompanied. So both parents and child learn \"Di Zi Gui\" together. Parents sit with child together inside classroom, observe.
Go home, parents revise with child the meaning taught.
Teacher ask parents try to reinforce concepts taught, teach child \"Real life application\" what is honour & respect, be responsible for oneself, caring, etc.
We as parents are responsible. Schools and teachers are not responsible of our own child's upbringing.
it is better to correct your child early asap, then to let it continue to manifest into something \"worse\".
Teacher teach, according to age group.
a) for kindergarten K1 / K2 kids - starting coming Sunday morning, 29 April, 9 am - 10.30 am (1.5 hrs duration)
b) for Primary / Secondary / Poly / JC / Uni students before stepping out into society to work - is ongoing every Friday night, 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm (2 hrs duration).
To register, may contact tel: 6849-5300.

With regards to the recent cases about the 48 men having sex with the underage girl, how do you ‘share or educate’ your kids on this?
can anyone share their views? at what age do you think is appropriate to share this kinda news?
Thanks. -
hsm:
In my opinion, the age to share is when the kids reach puberty, that is when they started to become curious about their own sexuallity and also the opposite sex. Just my 2 cents. With regards to the recent cases about the 48 men having sex with the underage girl, how do you 'share or educate' your kids on this?

My nephew and niece just read this wonderful story about financial responsibility and management, \"Three Cups\". It is written for kids by Tony Townsley and Mark St. Germain.
On his fifth birthday, a boy receives the gift of three cups from his parents: one is for spending, one for saving while the third for giving. That’s where he is to keep his allowance. Over time, how much goes into each cup changes. The text includes a parents’ guide.
\"Teaching Children How to Save, Spend and be Charitable with Money.\" It is a great book that teaches earning, saving and donating. Besides teaching the kids about money management and financial responsibility, it teaches the kids the importance of compassion too. A GREAT read!
I tried to find this book in the NLB catalogue but failed to do so. If you are keen to buy the book, you may have to get it from the amazon website:

Yup, I also agree that it would be more suitable to expose and educate your child with these sexual-related issues at puberty age. if you expose them too young, they might not understand or feel awfully disgustedI also seek advise.i let him to read the article about men,but he read the besides news \"why social escorts come to work?\"i am not sure is suitable for him or not.

I am a piano tutor. A mother make her 2 children say their ‘goodbye’ at the door after every lesson (except when they are already in bed).
A Japanese mother and her daughter used to do that too. Even the grandmother joins in, whenever she’s visiting. (but the elderly dare not go near me as she can’t understand English).
A simple gesture goes a long way. They learn gratitude and manners. -
I think the most effective way to instill values is to model them..
