Please help me how to solve this Area of Triangle Math.


The figure below is not drawn to scale. ADF is a triangle and BC = CD. Find the area of triangle ADF. (See Attached)

A class of Chinese and Malay pupils went to the zoo. The ratio of the no of Chinese pupils to the no. of Malay pupils was 10: 7. The ratio of the no.of Malay boys to the no. of Malay girls was 9 :5. What was the ratio of the no. of Malay girls to the no. of Chinese pupils in its simplest form?

My DS’s answer is 1:4 but the answer provided was 1:2. TIA.

In the end, Hakim : Suresh --> 4 : 1 --> 20u : 5u (difference 15u)

So, 19u --> $133, 1u --> 7

39 x 7 = 273

Hakim had $273 at first.

Sorry, but I am still confused. Firstly, if Hakim had 39u at first and in the end he had 20u, how is this possible to translate to 19u => $133 since it is a reduction?

Also, when I worked backwards using $273, I am not able to get the final ratio of 4:1. (I end up with Hakim:Suresh, $406:$301).

Please help. Thank you.

At first,Hakim:Suresh --> 39u:24u --> 373:168
In the end, Hakim:Suresh--> 20u:5u-->140:35
