Exams finally over liao - :boogie:
It was a tough week for my gal who has not had exams for the past two years...and having two tough papers on the same day - somemore ... -
I was not considering NJC until one of my friend mentioned it? Can any NJC parents share your DD/DS’s experience with school?
What CCA do they offer? Thanks -

Basically students do independent studies and there are no teachers but they are called tutors. In Year 1 they are introduced to a variety of CCA's,its a long list-check NJC website including canoeing, shooting, music etc BUT no uniformed CCA.This school will suit students who can be independent and not depending on being spoonfed. Students do however have a mentor who will guide and are there to render any kind of support they might need.My kid is having a ball of a time-he loves NJC and now beginning to understand why.The only setback the boys are outnumbered by the girls but soon they lose the discomfort zone.I was not considering NJC until one of my friend mentioned it? Thank you Dr. K. for your kind reply. At first we are only thinking about All girl school. A friend told me that NJC seems to have a good balance . I notice from NJC website that there is no swimming for cca? Am I right? My DD is competitive swimmer and considering DSA under swimming, though she is also very strong in academic result and leadership. Would do you suggest for her to apply for DSA? When is NJC’s open house? Thanks

It's true there is no swimming CCA but for PE they do share the pool with Hwa Choong Inst. Any credentials and achievements should help in DSA application.
Try out the ability test which should be anytime soon and if score is high enough will be contacted for phase 2a and b. Phase 2a will be activity and 2b will be the interview. DSA in NJC is very competitive. NJC takes in the top 5% in sec.1 posting but DSA will be much tougher than normal posting in academic and CCA.In 2011 only about 30+ students in my own estimate, were taken in even though about 190 must have qualified in the higher ability test which is the top 2% from what I hear. Nothing like taking the challenge and going for it, all to gain and nothing to lose maybe just the $50.The last open house was in April and you may call the office and find out the next one.Usually after the DSA they should have another one lined up.Hope this helps.Cheers! -
Thank you very much. Dr K.

DD is wondering, in that case, there will be no swimming team in NJC? she is active in interschool and national age group competition, does it mean that she will not represent school? :skeptical:
